Lucas is playing much better than Carrick, right now is better than Carrick who only pulls out one decent performance every 8 games he plays, plus he's a bottler most of the time, he's too scared to tackle, and hasn't even got the balls to spread a pass out wide any more so he passes it to his midfield partner so they can instead.
