That just reflects poorly on the Championship, doesn't it? At least Scottish fans value their league enough to support a Scottish team, whereas there are many non-local English fans who don't care at all about their local, lower-league side.

It's a simple question really, if you sign for Celtic you play in front of a large crowd, win trophies and play against top teams in the champions league, you wouldn't get most of that at Southampton.
