Do you even need Cahill? Agger is an excellent first choice if he can stay fit, Skrtel is still competent enough, while Carragher is still a decent defender, despite no longer being at his best. If a couple of those players succumb to injury, then young Danny Wilson could always be given a chance at some first team action.
Cahill is, without a doubt, an excellent signing, but it £12m seems like too much for a player who might not even feature all that often.

Maybe true, but he is in the last year of his contract and i cant see him staying at Bolton after that ends. So where else will he go Manchester United will not go for him, Chelsea maybe but ive not heard of any interest from them, Manchester City i dont think will want him, Arsenal well of course he could go there but will he want to go to Arsenal if they are not spending on new players. And i cant see him going to Tottenham personally.
And well even though we dont know what will happen at Liverpool with all their new players, at least they are spending and are looking like a club trying to move forward and build on something new, or will he go abroad.

When we get into the Champions League, I doubt we'll bring in top players because we've already signed young players for large sums of money this summer. I don't think we'll get far with players like Carroll, Henderson and Adam coming up against the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Ozil, Thiago Silva etc. But it's not like we'll fork out £30 odd million for someone like Higuain. These players we've signed might get us back into the top four, but we're not exactly going to release them after are we?
Put it this way. If we were given £50 million to spend on one player, who could be buy? Keep in mind that we already have a £35 million striker and a whole bunch of midfielders.
It's hard to get this point across and it might sound like I'm being a bit of a dick. But come next summer, if we do get into the top four, you'll see that my worries are quite legit.

That makes perfect sense. But the point is if we are good enough to get top 4 in England we can compete in Europe, just like we always have. IF we have a good squad, then we might only need one player compared to like this summer.
IF we get third place next season, we might only need an addition or two. Say Hazard next summer for that added flair, seeing as Kuyt is getting on as well.
