A club with a 60,000 stadium, one of the biggest fanbases in the world .. suddenly just starting playing amateur football? Having to spend years upon years playing in the backwaters of the english league system .. all to play in the totally over rated premier league? No thank you

The day Celtic play in England would be the day i stop supporting them

What if they made a one year special day to play a 25 team season for League One so this does not hurt anyone else?

They shouldn't be placed in League 1, people are forgetting there's ANOTHER league below and a very competitive one at that. If you want to be in the football league pyramid then fine, but start at the bottom, not in the middle.

Because other clubs would not agree to it and Celtic are not relevant enough to make them change the league system around.

Where does the evidence for these opinions come from? It's clear that none of you know anything about Scottish football but still feel qualified to pass comment on it.

The fact players who have played at the bottom of league 1 can join the SPL says alot.

Players who have played in the third division in Scotland can play in the English Championship

I reckon League 2 players could do well. Barnett and Tubbs come to mind. Barnett would score plenty in Scotland.

What about Vaz Te being released by Hibs and now playing for West Ham? Hooiveld our sixth best centre-back now Southampton's rock in defence? Murphy our 6th best striker now doing alright for Ipswich. John Fleck not even good enough for a ravaged Rangers squad but playing for Blackpool? Darren O'Dea a bombscare for us but a guaranteed starter for Leeds? Paul Slane not even close to making our first team squad has signed on loan for a League 1 team.

facepalm Yes but they are players with potential, the players joining the SPL are already at their prime and can compete in the SPL, because it's shit for a 1st division!

We aren't talking about the SPL anyway. Just Celtic. Celtic is better than league 2 sides unfortunately. League 1 is where they belong and where their standard of football is.

That of course doesn't make it fair for everyone else. Why should English clubs sacrifice their prospects for a Scottish club? How does this benefit anyone but Celtic? If Celtic want to play in the English league system, then either they buy a license from a club willing to sell, they merge with a league side, or they start at the beginning of the ladder or wherever the FA deems to be fair. (I'd say Blue Square North/South is fair)

On that note, my mortally crippled granny, not even knowing what day it is, could probably turn up at a Championship ground and score the winner in one of their games
