Re: Anime Thread
Haven't watched a series in a while - ones I like are hard to find - but I did find this jewel of an animated short on Youtube. It's brilliant:

Re: Anime Thread
How weird. I swear I made a post saying that I finished Vision of Escaflowne but it seems to have disappeared. Maybe I'm losing the plot.
Oh but yeah, it was pretty cool, I guess. Although, at times I felt it was targeted towards a female audience it was still enjoyable to this heterosexual male.
Started watching Le Chevalier D'Eon, it sort of mixes French figures in history with the occult. If you are into either of those things you'd probably really like it.

Re: Anime Thread
A French nobleman and knight's sister is found murdered. After a bit of sleuthing and a few more murders he finds out that his sister was part of a secret organization working for the king. The knight and 3 of his friends end up joining this secret organization and continue their investigation and soon discover that the knight's sister's murder was part of a bigger picture involving revolutionaries and a religious cult.
Oh I forgot to mention, the knight is on occasion possessed by the spirit of his deceased sister and she's especially brutal to their enemies. Something that scares and confuses the knight greatly.

Re: Anime Thread
Really cheesy premise but it's quite enjoyable.
Ordinary highschool girl gets traveled into a magical kingdom filled with dragons, swordsmen and giant mecha swordmen. There's an evil empire trying to conquer the world, and for some reason they need to capture a particular mecha(Escaflowne) piloted by the male protagonist. Most of the time the heroes spend their time running away from the evil empire. Eventually there's two love triangles involving the heroine.
I can't say much more since I'll spoil it, but the evil empire isn't all that it seems, they have ulterior motives and aren't just trying to conquer the world just because it's a city filled with a race of evil people, and that's just what evil people do, conquer stuff.

Not really surprising, is it? Isn't bleach one of the most popular animes? Never watched it myself, too many episodes.

Re: Anime Thread
Just started watching 'Mirai Nikki' Basis synopsis in the spoilers. Very basic as i'm basically half way through the first episode but the plot seems to have revealed itself:
- Spoiler:
- Basically, this guy gets told by the god of space and time, called Deus Ex Machina (for some reason. ), that his mobile phone will tell him his future so at first he uses it to cheat on tests and stuff, but then he finds out that other people have got these phones called 'Future diaries' and basically all of the people with the phones have to find and kill each other and the last one standing will become the new god of space and time. One of the people with the phone is a girl in his class, but she seems really weird, like she stalks him because her diary tells her his future, or something. It seems quite good, and it has a bit of a Death Note feel to it. As I said, i'm literally watching the first episode now, but it seems really good.
Official Synopsis: Yukiteru Amano (or Yuki) is a loner who never really interact with people and prefers writing a diary on his cell phone with his only companion being an imaginary friend named Deus Ex Machina, the God of Time and Space. However, Yuki soon learns that Deus is not a figment of his imagination but real when Deus makes him a participant in a battle royale with eleven others. Within this "Diary Game", the contestants are given special diaries that can predict the future with each diary having unique features that gives them both advantages and disadvantages.
Within the next 90 days, the contestants must try to kill each other and survive until there is only one alive where the winner becomes the new God of Time and Space. In order to survive, Yuki tries to find allies and friends to help him with one of them being another diary user named Yuno Gasai, a girl who is madly in love with him. As the game continues, Yuki soon learns that not everyone can be trusted, not even Yuno, whose obsession to keep both of them alive no matter the cost terrifies him. Thus begins the game of life and death, where everyone wants to win, no matter the cost.

Really? Dudes watching around with big swords, Blood and gore, some average acting, and Sean Connery playing a Spaniard but still using a Scottish accent.
You've been missing out.

Re: Anime Thread
Won't argue man. Code Geass is one of those rare gems that stays with you years after you've watched it.
Found a new one that looks interesting. It's only 3 episodes in so far, but they've all been good. The anime is Sword Art Online.
Then there's another that I tried out that's just weird. If you're not giving it your full attention, you'll only know the surface of what's going on. I'm going to watch the first episode again to figure out what the hell was happening. Time-travel based. The name is Steins;Gate.

Re: Anime Thread
The plot sounds a bit like .hack//Sign.
Started watching Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, pretty decent. Was a bit surprised with it to be honest, didn't expect for it to be very good, and I'm not a big fan of fighting anime since after Dragon Ball Z I've been ruined to all other fighting anime. This is more "realistic" fighting though, no one power ups and their aren't any energy balls and shit like that.
Still haven't finished watching Le Chevalier D'Eon, though so I'm watching a few animes at the same time.

Re: Anime Thread
I watched a couple of episodes of Kenichi, but the ridiculousness outside the fighting was a bit too much for me.
Interesting that you brought up .hack. Only saw episode of that when I was about 15/16.

The lightheartedness is a welcome changed for me I guess.
Haven't nothing but Seinen for like a year. And those tend to be a bit darker and more serious.

Re: Anime Thread
Started watching SAO, seems pretty good.
I need to get a list of Anime so I can set up an Anime Club at my school (from 4 to 5:30, my school has 'activity hour' where you do stuff, from Football practice, to Art, to computer clubs etc), so I need some Anime that is 'friendly' for the younger years or else it'll get shut down like it did last year Any ideas?
It didn't really stop us though, we just set up an underground anime club

Re: Anime Thread
Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit is probably a good shout.
Doesn't have nudity and much graphic violence so it's safe for the younger viewers but it has a nice storyline so it's entertaining enough for an older audience.
I like Steampunk(and pretty much any other _____-punk) so I'd recommend Steam Boy too.

Dead.
Couldn't sleep last night, so I ended up watching Dragonball from the beginning. Some of the stuff that goes on in those early episodes. Must have had some heavy editing to show them on tv.
@Cam: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Wolf's Rain, Code Geass. Lupin the Third.

I was in Mexico when I first watched Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.
No editing whatsoever. When I first saw Piccolo shoot his Special Beam cannon through two puny Saiyans. All that blood.

Re: Anime Thread
There was a major power imbalance when Dragonball Z first came out. Right at the beginning you see Vegeta blow up a planet with a single finger and then he never does anything like it ever again.
Once I'm finished watching Bleach for the 2nd time I might go and finish Code Geass. I only got so far last time.

Re: Anime Thread
Dragon Ball was the best series of the Dragon Ball series, everyone had a chance to beat everyone.
After the Frieza saga in Dragon Ball Z it became a Saiyan thing and got pretty boring.
Actually, forget that first sentence, Yamcha was a bitch in Dragon Ball too.
