Scholes?
I was recently having a debate with a friend over whether Scholes or Gerrard was better. I chose Scholes and started thinking was he the greatest English player ever. Scholes has been consistently great throughout his career. I know I 'm biased but I'd like to see if you agree and if you don't who do you think is the greatest English player ever?

Re: Scholes?
He's arguably the greatest English player of his generation, but there have been greater players in the past such as Charlton and Moore.
No doubt that he's the best midfielder England have had though, as he was streaks ahead of Lampard and Gerrard when in his prime.

Are you trying to argue that Gerrard and Lampard are both better than Scholes at his best?

You can't laugh at him if you honestly think Gerrard and Lampard are two of the greatest ever English midfielders either.

Mine isn't anywhere near as laughable as thinking Scholes is the greatest English player of all time

I don't really think any English midfielder has a career as great as Scholes..

That's only because of the players around him. Stick Gerrard at United and Scholes at Liverpool and people would have a different opinion.

Re: Scholes?
I'm not even going to argue this, saying Gerrard is better than Scholes is like saying Joe Cole is better than Lionel Messi. Are scousers born like that or something?

Re: Scholes?
I think Paul Scholes was an absolute class footballer, and his passing and vision and the way he found space on the pitch was amazing. He also played more as an attacking midfielder when he was younger, but when he got older he sat back in the midfield and could run a game from the middle of the pitch. Dont know if he is the greatest but i would put him up there as one of the greatest.
