How would you change the game? Empty How would you change the game?

Post by Guest Wed May 18, 2011 3:21 am

A thread I saw on another forum, could stir up some good discussion.

If you were in charge of FIFA / UEFA / FA ... what would you change?

A couple of quotes to give you an idea ...

The Europa League would get a massive overhaul for me. Back to the knockout format, with the winner getting a Champions League place.

I'd change the offside rule back to what it used to be. If you're in an offside position when the ball is played, regardless of whether you're involved or not, you're offside.

I'd get rid of that stupid rule where if you need treatment, you have to go off. Only then to turn around and come back on the second the ball is back in play. Pointless.

Similarly, if a player goes down injured, play doesn't stop. The physio can run on the pitch and see to the injury as play goes on around them. I bet players wouldn't feign injury so much if they knew the world wouldn't stop for them.

First thing I would change is using video evidence post game to fine/ban players who dive/play act. Wouldn’t be possible to get 100% right, but a few bannings would soon dramatically reduce the amount of cheating that goes on

Only captains would be allowed to speak to the referee. Taking a leaf out of Rugby's book, this would put less preassure on officials during the game and therefore allow them to make better decisions. If a particular player needs to be spoken to, the ref would call them over to him, and he would only speak when spoken to. If a player has an issue, they would need their captain to apprach the ref who would then decide whether to engage with them or not. This would mean that the game would run far more smoothly, and we would not see scenes of players hounding and surrounding the referees in an attempt to get opposition players sent off.

So yeah. What would YOU change?

    Scrap the Oceania Playoffs

    Have a Video Ref

Make every NT have a manager from that particular nation

Make taking your top off not a bookable offense unless there is nothing underneath the top.

Do more to help out the lower league clubs, ban all football on TV on the same day as a full fixture list. Only show football on Match of the Day ensuring local clubs get higher attendances.

Yep i'm being selfish, it wont happen but the question was what i would personally like to see.

Implement tougher penalties for poor financial stuff.

Only let the captain speak to the ref, and they have to address him as 'sir' similar to Rugby.

    Goal line technology.

I would take away the rule that the best teams get seeded for the Champions League in both the qualification rounds and the proper finals. With the tournament being a big source of income for UEFA I wouldn't want to change it's format back to the European Cup (despite it being better then and more competitive). But, by taking away the seeding rule, it might ensure that the top teams don't always get an easier route to the final, and there could end up being a group of good teams such as Man Utd, Milan, Barca and Madrid, and a group of lesser teams such as Dinamo, Twente, Cluj and Arsenal. Although it may not always see the best teams qualifying, it would make the competition more competitive for teams across Europe. I'd also take the seeding rule out of other major tournaments too.

I'll post other changes when I think of them

I'd change how players are allowed to obstruct other players when the ball is going out for a goal kick, yet anywhere else on the pitch, it's a foul for obstruction. Stupid.

Infact got another one. To ensure it's the CHAMPIONS League, only the champions of each nation qualify. 2nd placed teams go into the Europa.

Make the FA Cup Semi Finals be played at Old Trafford and The Emirates. Having the Semi's at Wembley takes part of the magic out of the cup imo.

Haha, that would be insanely good. Title races would be that much better. To make it even more interesting, the winner of the FA Cup (and the equivalent for other countries) should get a the second CL spot. Would mean players would take the competition MUCH more seriously too.

Reserve leagues for a start. Most pointless things ever. Either get the reserve player in your 25 man squad, loan them out or do a B/C team thing.

Would like to see the 25 man squad including academy players as well, like 5-10 players from the academy should always be in the 25 man squad.

Can't think of anything else apart from the obvious atm.

If you go down injured and the physio comes on, you're taken off the pitch for 5 minutes... to 'recover' from your injury.

Would treat the people who are really hurt, and penalize those trying to waste time.

Zero points for a 0-0 result.

An extra point for scoring 3 goals in a game?

Give more seats to the fans when they get to Wembley rather than all the posh cunts in suits have them. Evenly split the ground, 45,000 allocation each

Yeah I agree. Extra time is the way to go. If you were drawn to play away, bad luck.

Get rid of FA Cup replays. No need for 'em, just have ET and penalties for christ sake.

Cry They are a god send for clubs like mine, if we draw at home vs a big team and play away at their ground then we get a handy financial boost.

I like what Spain do with their reserve teams, they compete in the second division (or lower) in that country. Very good idea. I think the reformation of our reserve league in summer was good, but it seems a lot better in Spain.

And (as mentioned) I'd take out the rule where you have to go off after you've been treated. Pointless, and if you've been treated before you're defending a free kick/corner, it gives the other team an unfair advantage imo.
