Digging this up as I was going to create a thread on Cavani.
Got to say he in my opinion he is one of the top 5 strikers in Europe this season. Scores a huge variation of goals, from the spectacular to the simple but effective strikers tap-ins. Also looking to find space between the defenders, which he does extremely well. Still has time to improve and become even better, very impressed with what I have saw of him this season.

Discounting Ronaldo (looking at him as a wide player), I would say Cavani is one the top 5 in-form strikers in the world ATM.

On form.
And with that said, there should always be a "top x players in the world" category that is established, and one that is based on form. Because fans get too crazy when someone has a good season.

He's a beast.
But the coolest thing about him is when he scores at home and the announcer the crowd go
EDINSON! CAVANI! EDINSON! CAVANI! EDINSON! CAVANI!
Can anybody seriously answer why he was sent on loan from Palermo? What a bunch of idiots.

cavani's probably one of my favorite strikers in the world, but i don't consider him world class yet. it's only one season. could be just good form
but di natale's been scoring as much as cavani and regularly too over the seasons. yet even he's not considered world class... suarez last season banging 40+ goals for ajax and not world class either
IMO a player is not considered world class until they perform well at an international competition, champions league, world cup, etc...

Don't watch him enough, though I was watching when he scored a hattrick, and have seen him a few other times and he looked very very good.

+30 goals in consecutive seasons that include 5 goals in the champions league, what do you think now?

No I would not have him on the Top 5 list though.

Rooney
Aguero
Falcao
Tevez
Benzema
Although Cavani is close, he isn't top 5.

Messi
Rooney
RVP
Higuain
Aguero
5 players who are better strikers than Cavani
Not to make Kuled mad but I'd say there are a few others that are better too.

He definitely is if Messi and Ronaldo are considered wide players and you're mostly basing it off form in the past 2 years.
My top 5 would include: Cavani, Gomez, Rooney, RVP and I can't decide on another. Either Ibra. Aguero, Benzema or someone else.

Cavani has more goals than Aguero and Higuain this season and he's made less appearances than Higauin and the same as Aguero. Not to mention that those 2 players are at better clubs, if he was at Real, United, City etcetera he can be a 40 goal+ striker I'm sure of it. I honestly think that when he joins a bigger team he'll be the best striker in the world (if you discount ronaldo and messi as strikers)Grenade wrote:Messi

Higuain has made 23 of his 50 appearances from the bench this season.

Fair enough. He is still arguably top 5 though if you base it off current and last season's form.

Gomez has more goals than Cavani, that doesn't mean he's the better striker. Aguero has been playing alongside other strikers this season, he's usually the deeper striker too. I can't understand what you mean in the bolded bit?Kuled wrote:Cavani has more goals than Aguero and Higuain this season and he's made less appearances than Higauin and the same as Aguero. Being at a better club doesn't mean a player will automatically score more goals, Napoli are a pretty good team anyway. Why would you discount Messi btw? He can play as a striker perfectly well

Yes my friend, I have to admit that this year Cavani has edged Dimitar Berbatov out of the top 5, however that is only due to a lack of Dimitar Berbatov playing time.
It will be interesting to see what happens next year if Dimitar Berbatov moves on and gets regular football, I am sure he will storm back and be known as the worlds finest once more.

I'm not going to count Messi and Ronaldo as strikers. But the following (in no particular order) are better than Cavani...
Aguero
Rooney
Higuain
Benzema
Tevez
Van Persie
Torres
Villa
Cavani is probably in the top 10 though.
