Re: Chat Thread
I value mercy very highly, and that naming-and-shaming just doesn't really sit well with me. They are clearly ignorant, especially to post it online, but we all say silly things from time to time and I would prefer it if somebody contacted me about what I said instead of organizing some sort of online witch-hunt.

Of course you should know better, but do you really think that causing someone the massive financial hardship of losing an already shit job with no chance of a good reference and the humiliation of having it plastered all over the internet is a fair or proportionate punishment? Racists are still people, they still suffer.
I agree, the Suarez ban was way too harsh.
Exactly. Sure Suarez didn't lose his job or suffer major financial hardship, but he was punished for being a racist. It doesn't matter what your education level or level is. Besides, it's not like these people online are never going to find another job.

Losing your job for being racist isn't exactly going to make you less racist. Certainly not if you have the level of ignorance required to be that racist.

It will make you watch what you're saying in public though. You can see examples of them apologizing online after they were fired.

This is why I'm a fan of corporal punishment. Like those racist people are dicks and I want them to know it, but I also don't want to ruin their lives, and those of their probably innocent children. So unless you're job involves being in a position where you can actually hurt people of color, I'd be content with having someone pimp slap them so hard the guy dishing it outs comes up of the ground.
I guess mandatory sensitivity training is another idea but that's not as fun fantasizing about.

I'm imagining the sensitivity training from The Office.

Re: Chat Thread
I was just wondering if it can replace an iPad. I basically only need it to read PdF files and surf the web, with added bonuses being the NBC Sports App for watching football and Sudoku. If it does work, how do you find the screen size?

It can certainly read PDFs and browse the internet, I don't know about that App though, couldn't say if it was even available, the Kindle uses a separate App store, which is annoying. The screen size is fine, but if I was going for a tablet in that size range then I'd prefer the Samsung Tab 3 or 4 due to the better interface and range of apps, they're the only two I've used for any serious period of time though.

The app is apparently on the Kindle store.
That seems like a very decent deal. The larger Kindle costs over 100 dollars more than that. Is there anything wrong with that that I'm missing?

Never used one but it looks like a good deal to me. It's not the most recent version, that's the Tab S, but I'm sure it's perfectly good for what you need it for.

My apps seem to crash a lot on my iPad, but it's 3/4 years old and an iPad 1. I shouldn't experience the same problems with this, should I?
Might use my Christmas money to get it.

That's really, really cheap and I will consider it, but I am not sure whether the screen is big enough. I was trying out my grandmother's and it seemed really small.FCB wrote:Glen Miller wrote:The app is apparently on the Kindle store.

I was asking which device you were referring to. I see that you mean the Fire HD 8.9.
Both the Galaxy Tab 4 (10.1) and the Fire HD 8.9 are roughly the same dimensions. The Galaxy just has about an inch more screen space. The resolution on the Fire is much better than the Galaxy. The Galaxy has a 3 megapixel camera versus the 8 megapixel one on the Fire. The Fire also has a better processor and RAM. I haven't used the Fire before or it's Fire OS, so I can't comment on that software.

Well the iPad Air 2 is $500. If you can shell out $350, you can get some really good tablets.

The Nexus 9, Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, Amazon Fire HD 8.9, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. All those are in the $350-400 range (you might find them cheaper now because of deals going on). That's still $100-150 cheaper than an iPad Air 2 for equal or better quality.
EDIT: I'm considering buying a Nexus 9 for my mom.
