I was wrong, we are only 11 points behind Southampton.Glen Miller wrote:I think that's fair. Once Sturridge comes back we might be just be below where we were right after we signed Sturridge and Coutinho.Childish Logic wrote:I feel like we are back to when we had roy as a manager.
I mean, we're 14 points behind Southampton. That's probably because we went domestic in the market again while they showed a bit of imagination and went abroad. I was very wrong about Lovren and Lallana.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I actually want us to finish outside the top 4. At least then we might have a proper shake up at the club. My only fear is that the only thing attracting players to Arsenal is the lure of CL (for some reason top players dream of playing a two legged play-off followed by 6 group game and 2nd place finish leading to eventual elimination in the round of 16), miss out and then sign the wrong players and we might be in for 4-5 years of midtable finishes.Glen Miller wrote:RR might get his wish, I can't wait to see those ambitious clubs "actually have a go" in the Champions League and bring glory back to English football.Keyser Söze wrote:Us, United, Spurs and Everton. All vying for midtbale.
Let's leave the top 4 places to the big boys like Swansea, Southampton and West Ham.

I am not really sure what I want for us. I think that all 3 somewhat realistic outcomes are equally depressing. If we somehow qualify via the top 4, we'll probably sign another menagerie of half-decent players for inflated prices and once again fail to concern the teams ahead of us. If we finish in the top 6/7, we'll probably stick with what we have and stagnate as well. A comfortably average midtable finish might see a shakeup, but I don't think it will make a difference. We'll sign the same players no matter where we finish. I might be living in London next year, so I think I'll start supporting Chelsea or Fulham.Keyser Söze wrote:I actually want us to finish outside the top 4. Is that because of you doing that year aboard that you talked about?
If Arsenal continue to be as infuriatingly shit as they have been then I'll make good on my promise on EA of giving up on watching them. Even now I'm just not that up for 80% of our games, we just play such boring football and I know it won't change anytime soon. At least before when we were winning nothing we were enjoyable to watch. I used to upset when you lost games now it's just an que for me to wish death on players.

I missed half of the match against Chelsea to go for breakfast with someone. I've also only seen a few minutes of our CL campaign. I'm the same, I was pretty upset when we lost to you last season, lost to Hull, etc., and I even got upset under Roy. Now, I really don't mind it-I kind of enjoy it, it adds to the humorous narrative of our boom-bust cycle. I was also secretly glad the Cahill handball wasn't called, that would have just given renewed hope for 3 weeks or so.Keyser Söze wrote:Glen Miller wrote:

Yes, I think I have my heart set on returning to Britain for a year. I'm deciding between St. Andrews, Bristol, and UCL. St. Andrews seems like the atmosphere I would like, Bristol is located near to Gloucestershire (where my family lives & all my memories from England are), and UCL might be a good enough school to make me swallow my hatred of London. Do you go to university in the UK?

I'd pick UCL if I was you. It's like one the best universities in the world and given that I live in London I think the city is alright
No, not yet. I'll be going Uni in a couple of years but I've not decided if it'll be in the UK or abroad. I'd like to study in the US but it's an impossible target, the fees would just be too much. By abroad it'll probably be an Arab country like Lebanon or such... I would go to the American Uni in Egypt but Ra's slings on those corners so we might have an Avon-Marlo situation on our hands

Yeah, probably. It's also in the middle of nowhere, which suits me to the ground.ResurrectionRooney wrote:St. Andrews is the obvious best choice from those listed.
I think that my tuition would be paid via financial aid, so the only fees are housing & living costs. I have visited London twice in the past few years and nearly died on each occasion, once at the hands of a mad homeless man and the other time when I got caught in the middle of a gay pride march.Keyser Söze wrote:Glen Miller wrote:

Apparently, it's becoming more and more common for US schools to offer need-blind positions with financial aid to international students. You should definitely look into it, I've quite enjoyed growing up in the US, and the novelty of being foreign has unlimited perks in the right situations.
I'll be honest, I have a bit of trouble believing that you are as young as you claim.

If living and accommodation costs are a concern for you you would have to be on crack to even consider London. I work with London based people who are earning nearly £30,000 in London and can't afford to move out from their parents' homes unless they're willing to move to criminal infested shitholes.

How much would an apartment cost in London? The average cost in my part of DC is probably 800 dollars or 500 pounds.ResurrectionRooney wrote:If living and accommodation costs are a concern for you you would have to be on crack to even consider London. This suggests that it would be about 20,000 dollars. Absolute robbery, not everyone's father is on 150 grand a year.

How old did you guys think I was? I thought you guys knew I was 18 but it might have been just Jay that I told. So I'm the same age as you Glen.I should have been clearer, I should be going Uni next year but if I decided to study aboard I might need to take a year out to sort out the application process. If I decide to stay in the UK then I'll probably be going Uni next year.
There are a schemes/scholarships that might cover me if I want to study in the US but I think most are impossible to get unless you have a shit tonne of extra curricular stuff. I can get ones through my Libyan citizenship but they'd only be enough to cover one year.
Egypt would be nice since it' next door to Libya. Plus I think it's ranked as one of they best Universities in the Arab world and I think they have scholarships to help other African students pay for tuition but I'm not sure how much that's dependent on who you know rather than what you know because if something like that was done in Libya getting in would very much be about who you know

I'll admit I'm not familiar with the overseas application process. The websites I looked up makes it seem like the people that get scholarships are also like that. Either sports stars or 20-23 year olds that took a few years off to work on their extra curricular activities in ridiculous high end sectors. Yeah he does, I remember my mom telling me about how bad the King of Jordan spoke Arabic so I googled him one time and saw that his son went to your uni. I don't know how to take that I'll take it as you've seen my comments about being 13 and correctly assumed I was far too wise to be that young.
I guess it depends what uni/course you go to in the west and what one you go to in Arab countries. Here in the UK my tuition will be the new 9k one so unless I get into a good course (Engineering or medicine) or into a red brick/ top ~20 uni (which I should hopefully) it might be worth going aboard. For example, most Arab kids will be pressured by their parents to be doctors but not all will get the grades so instead of going to a shitty uni and settling for a course like operation theatre assistant and paying 30K for it you could go to a globally higher ranked uni in the Arab world and study an accredited medical course for cheaper fees.

I am terrible at networking, I can't stand the pastel-wearing, prep-school-educated twits who dominate the social scene here. Class segregation infests the place, so it's always great having an accent that makes you automatically superior in passing interactions. I did make friends with someone from Saudi Arabia, though-he had been sent here by his father to learn English, and made some vague references to his ties to oil production-but I haven't seen him for months. He has undoubtedly returned to take over his deceased father's kingdom.
It will be a great day. I think it best that we start out the attack by hiring a car and just driving by his house, yelling insults from the safety of our vehicle.
I did my first year of school in Scotland and started at 4 years old, so I've always been a year too young for my school year over here. That probably explains it.SBSP wrote:Dafuq, had no idea I was older than Glen. Probably should have realised that come to think about it.

I was the third youngest or so when I was in primary school in Scotland, but I basically got moved back a year when I moved to the US, so now I'm one of the older ones.

"I'm convinced Jose Mourinho would have been happy with a draw that day. He didn't want to win the league last year because when you don't win the league, it is easier to persuade the owner that you need a new centre-forward, a new midfielder, another top-class goalkeeper, another world-class midfielder."
