Re: 2014/15 UEFA Champions League Thread
Anyone else watching/watched the Basel-Porto game and saw Clattenburg laugh like a mental patient?

I didn't expect City to be played off the park like that.

Penaldo would have scored that.

Messi should not be allowed to take penalties.

Suarez would have tucked that away and completed a nice hattrick, why they let a perennial bottler take a last minute penalty away from home to seal a CL knock out tie is beyond me.

Jordan Henderson syndrome, he is the captain, he wants to take the penalty therefore he must take the penalty.

Re: 2014/15 UEFA Champions League Thread
How many of City's signings in the past 3 seasons have improved them? Demichelis has been okay, Fernandinho has been decent but was wildly expensive, and most of the rest have left or look set to leave at some point.
Seeing how meek the current City fans are makes me wish for the days when BlinkBlues and Mpenza were still on their high horses. It's quite irritating that the moment I start to like their team a bit, they get overtaken by Chelsea.

No surprise really, they put Barcelona's awful directorial team in charge of their transfers in an attempt to entice Pep.

Suarez didn't even take penalties for Liverpool, did he?

He took two. He blasted one over the Annie Road End against Sunderland and hit one right at the keeper against Brighton at the Kop.SBSP wrote:Suarez didn't even take penalties for Liverpool, did he?

Case in point then. He has no business taking penalties when Messi is on the pitch.

The penalty was poor and the header was even worse. Messi should continue to take penalties though.
They let Neymar take Barca's last penalty and he missed it too.

Most of the good signings were in 2009 or 2010, that's still pretty much the spine of the team. Since then the signings have been mostly poor. 12/13 was obviously a mistake, they went far too slow and the first signing was Rodwell on the day of the charity shield. 13/14 is clearly the best of the three there. Fernando is a decent squad player but shouldn't be a first team regular, Mangala is miles off where he needs to be and I don't think Bony will be a revelation, but I could be wrong.

Re: 2014/15 UEFA Champions League Thread
I remember one of the stats guys on Twitter wrote an article on the age composition of Man City's squad:
http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2015/1/15/7545731/manchester-city-risky-transfer-business.
In short, there are too many guys at the peak age for performance. City's going to need a massive overhaul soon, and FFP is going to complicate that.

Nothing going Arsenal's way. Giroud skies an open goal, then Walcott gets in the way of a tap in for Welbeck, deflecting it over the bar. Reminds me of the days we'd hit the post 5 times in a match
