It's close to a fair price, we just tend to expect more because we are so generous to other clubs.

LFC showing great humility though.

Agreed, seems like it could very well leave that release clause open to interpretation, I'd throw in the extra £1 just to make sure.

For a player who is banned, 27 years old, very suspension prone, a disgrace to whichever shirt he's wearing and totally unproven at the highest level £60m is a very good price.

Don't be silly, mate. They're being shafted here. FIFA wanted this to happen to them.

It's from the BBC, yet it seems unlikely.

Reports emerging from Spain claimed a straight cash fee had been agreed which is lower than the buy-out clause, believed to be between £70million and £80million, in the Uruguay international’s contract.
However, there is no consistent agreement on what that new figure is - the most common suggestion being 75 million euros (£60million) - but sources close to the Liverpool end of the deal categorically state there is no truth in the claims.

It's probably a tiny amount higher than the reported fee, then. Maybe it's 60m up front with the rest of the clause being paid later. Either way, we're going to sign a handful of inferior players and wrap up 5th place.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
The fee will be undisclosed but Liverpool will feed the media total crap because their delusional fans have spent the last 3 years telling everyone he is a Ronaldo level player, they'll expect a Ronaldo level fee. Getting over £20m less than what Spurs did for Bale would cause a great deal of discontent, but it's what's going to happen, they can't admit it. If Barcelona were meeting the release clause there'd be no need for any negotiations.

The Echo also reports that the fee is the full release clause of 75m.

We should give him to Barcelona for free, we have Fabio Borini. He's better than Suarez

Lol.
He will be going for £70-£80 million. (Or less + Sanchez).
Barcelona are reportedly (by Guardian, BBC etc) happy to meet the release clause. Negotiations are over method of payment/structure, not the fee itself.

Where do you think the Guardian and BBC are getting their information from? It's Liverpool feeding the media shit to try and save face. More fool you if you believe them.

Can't wait for when it's official, and everywhere says £70-80 million, including Barcelona.
"Liverpool probably told Barcelona to publish a fake fee, as part of the deal, to keep the Liverpool fans happy"
I like your tin-hat, RR. Where can I get one?

It amazes me that you don't think spinning of transfer fees goes on.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
£60 million, £75 million, does it really matter from a Liverpool perspective? I think it's pretty pointless bragging about how much Liverpool receive unless they spend it wisely. Spurs got €91 million for Bale but everyone just remembers how they squandered it on 10 shit players that resulted in a shambolic season.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Release clauses aren't that simple cause they involve the player buying his own contract out. The club would obviously pay it, but then it's subject to tax which would hike up the fee. If they didn't want to cooperate they could make it more difficult for the buying club easily. That's why Phil Jones was bought for more than his release clause and that's why Atletico could stop Real buying Aguero for his release clause. There is always negotiation.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Ryan Bertrand is our left back. 4 players in, none of whom are good enough to really take us to the next level. I can kind of understand why we backed away from Moreno, whoever we sign ensures we no longer play with 10 men plus the local freak every match, so we shouldn't really spend too much on that position.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I don't want Lovren anymore, he has been so disrespectful to Southampton. Let's go all in for Caulker.
Also glad that we didn't go any further for Sanchez after he turned us down for Arsenal/Juventus (stupid move imo opinion), I'm sure we've got an equally CL-quality alternative lined up.

I haven't read anything concrete on the Sanchez front. I wouldn't rule him out of joining Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I didn't think his comments were that bad. I think it's fair enough if he was signed under the promise of some ambition, only to see the club turn around a year later and sell all their best players. I suppose it's unprofessional to say it to a newspaper, but I don't blame him for thinking those things anyway.

On the verge of signing 20 year old Markovic. Not seen much of him, but christ, does he look good on his YouTube compilations. People from Benfica saying he's basically Sterling, but better. That's promising.
25 million. Rodgers must think he's worth it. Apparently that's a steal according to Benfica fans.
