Good players and bad players have come from that league. Groundbreaking stuff.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
It's not just where he came from, it's where he went back to, he was over there last season firing in all sorts of amazing goals. There is a big controversy in Portugal about why he wasn't called up for the World Cup since only Ronaldo scored more goals than him of all Portuguese players. The point is that it's easy for wank players to look good in that league.

I am aware of the point. I agree that it is silly for Scott or anyone to judge a player in a league where anyone, as good as Di Maria or bad as Bebe can stand out

Can we stop acting like I actually came to a full conclusion of Markovic's talents?
Scott_LFC wrote:On the verge of signing 20 year old Markovic. Not seen much of him, but christ, does he look good on his YouTube compilations. People from Benfica saying he's basically Sterling, but better. That's promising.
25 million. Rodgers must think he's worth it. Apparently that's a steal according to Benfica fans.
All I said was that he looked good on his compilations (which almost everyone does, apart from Aspas) and that people from Benfica have compared him to Sterling/said 25 million is a steal. I also pointed out that Rodgers must think he's worth 25 million if he's willing to pay that.
Hardly passing judgement. Just repeating what has been said elsewhere.
Here's hoping he's a Ronaldo or Di Maria, and not a Bebe.

£35 million release clause inserted in Markovic's contract for LFC, apparently. Hmm.

Ben Smith @BenSmithBBC 23 mins
Luis Suarez to Barcelona will, as expected, be a £75m cash deal. None of #LFC spending so far dependent on his sale

Where do you think that information comes from? Do you think he sits in on the negotiations or has access to the paperwork?Scott_LFC wrote:Ben Smith @BenSmithBBC 23 mins

Right, so it hasn't just come from a Liverpool exec who wants everyone to think they've got a massive fee for him.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
What about the other side? Why wouldn't Barcelona claim that the fee was lower (63 million, if I remember correctly) to get everyone to think they got a great player for a decent price?

I doubt Barcelona fans care as much about the fee being inflated as Liverpool fans would about it being realistic. Spending a lot is good for their President's reelection chances anyway.

I don't really follow the last point, I'm a bit confused. If spending a lot is good for his election prospects, wouldn't he want the figure released to be as high as possible? If that is the case, it must be less than 63, even.

I'd say £75m is as high as they could go without massively stretching credibility.Glen Miller wrote:I don't really follow the last point, I'm a bit confused. RR just mad that we've sold Suarez for Ronaldo/Bale money, even though he's 27 and a nutcase.

You haven't though, you've missed that by some margin. Let's take your figures and pretend that they haven't been spun and that they're completely accurate. Looking purely at the £ value, £75m today is worth less than £64m in 2009 money thanks to inflation, so that's a £26m deficit already. If you think a £75m sale in 2014 is the same sort money as an £86m transfer in 2013 or an £80m transfer in 2009 then you're delusional.

Have you read Pay As You Play? If you have then you probably already know inflation within football is actually much greater than in general life.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Scott_LFC wrote:RR just mad that we've sold Suarez for Ronaldo/Bale money, even though he's 27 and a nutcase.
