No, but would you want to be the team that was the first one to concede from that? Obviously it wasn't a problem, they regrouped didn't concede then, and didn't concede the rest of the game, but it just struck me a bit oddly. That's all.Scott M wrote:It's probably down to the sheer disbelief of the moment. It would have been so typical for us to have let our lead slip in the last 2 minutes and for the last couple of years, we've gotten used to Reina conceding pretty much every penalty we've faced. Not just that, but we hadn't actually saved a penalty at Anfield in the League since 1999 or something crazy like that, so it was doubly huge.
Also, the players saw that the ball went out for a corner and saw that Stoke weren't in a rush to take it, i.e, none of the Stoke players went bombing it down to the corner flag to take the corner and most of the other players had their head in their hands, due to missing the penalty. This is shown by the fact that even after all that celebrating, there was still time to organise the defense in preparation for the corner, which we cleared with ease.
Besides, when have you ever seen a goal conceded due to celebrations after a saved penalty?

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Most teams just give the goalkeeper a quick tap on the head and get on with it. I think it was just so wild because Mignolet had been so nervous all game + it was his debut.
Still, it was a rare display of a lack of professionalism by Glen Johnson.

Either way, every time Spurs has attempted to show us up by beating us to a signing, they generally become mediocre players. I can only imagine the players are a bit depressed at being denied the chance to play in the famous red and white.

Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho, Willian, Alberto, Aspas, Sterling, Ibe, Suso (loan), Borini.
Surely that group of attacking players edges the attack of the 08/09 season?

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
On paper, sure. That team was built entirely with the intentions of getting the best of Stevie G (back when he was athletic) and Torres. I don't think our attack had any other real stars-Kuyt, Benayoun, Riera, and to a lesser extent Babel were all there to work hard and contribute when they could, but they were all playing second fiddle to our two main men. Heck, we even have two adventurous fullbacks now while we had Arbeloa & Aurelio/Insua back then.Scott M wrote:Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho, Willian, Alberto, Aspas, Sterling, Ibe, Suso (loan), Borini.

I can't see Lucas/Gerrard/Allen fulfilling the same role as that glorious Alonso/Mascherano partnership. Nor can I see Johnson/Toure/Agger/Enrique fulfilling the same role as our back 4 back then. It's really pretty incredible that we averaged over 2 goals a game that season-looking back on the team on paper, it really seems somewhat defensively minded.

Banterini gets the whip out.
Also:
Look at Lucas showing his superior footballing intelligence by hustling to prevent the short corner.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
So, today's the day Willian will apparently choose between Spurs and Liverpool. I am not feeling too optimistic. If Spurs didn't have Paulinho and Sandro, I'd feel more confident he was coming to us, due to already having Coutinho and Lucas here.
The only thing that gives me an ounce of hope, is the fact we have a bigger South American contingent, in Suarez, Lucas, Coutinho, Coates, etc and the likes of Alberto and Aspas too, who hang around with the aforementioned players.
Will feel hugely optimistic about our top 4 chances if we sign Willian. If we miss out, then Spurs have just propelled even further ahead.

Bad news for Arsenal. Spurs are strengthening significantly. Soldado, Willian, Paulinho, Capoue and Chadli. Also look like they're going to sign Lamela.Theo Filippo wrote:Looks like Tier 2 signing Willian is on his way to Spurs.

I don't know, the quality of players they now have may change that.
But we mustn't forget that they'll be losing Bale.

Thankfully Chadli and Capoue are nothing special, the latter being a donkey. Apparently we are in for Lamela too yeah right.
