Your right, it's not like a club has ever valued a player at above 30 million because of his undoubted quality.

We probably won't get him now. But that goes to show that he's a big player. The Champions want him.Sky Sports News @SkySportsNews 23m
Tottenham are rivalling Liverpool in the race to sign Brazil forward Willian. We understand Manchester Utd are also interested. #ssn

Pace, trickery and the ability to take some one on. Interesting.

We'll see, I guess. It's hard for us both to comment on players we don't watch.

Lots of players get overpriced, look at the top 50 transfers there's quite a few who were vastly overvalued.Scott M wrote:When else has it happened? Aren't Anzhi pretty desperate to sell, though? Are they in any position to make overly greedy demands?
30 million sounds like an absolute bargain.

I don't think they are in any rush to sell. I remember reading their owner lost some on a recent business deal so he's trying to recoup some money back from Anzhi since he sees them going the same way, I don't think he'll want to make a loss on this as well.Moriarty wrote:Aren't Anzhi pretty desperate to sell, though? Personally I think at £30million he's overpriced, £22-26million at a stretch is what I think he's worth. Although Manchester City had a €40million bid rejected for him earlier in the window so clearly he has some clubs interested in him.

I cannot trust this comparison since you didn't know who Henrik was 2 months ago....Scott M wrote:I disagree. I'd say proper big-name, massive signings would be the likes of Suarez, Bale, Ronaldo, Higuain, Fabregas etc.Theo Filippo wrote:Meh, it's basically similar to Chelsea signing Yuri Zhirkhov.
Willian, for me, is in the next tier down, amongst the likes of Mkhitaryan, Soldado, Jovetic, Navas etc.
I hope we sign a German winger

Pisses me off that some fans actually agree with this mess, like
@NUFCOfficial Pardew will guide us to a top 10 finish now we don't have Europa and bought in Remy, Bent to follow #NUFC

The seasons are kind of blurring into each other now, I think consistent midtable superiority finishes are taking away from my passion. I last felt nervous before a game in 2010, I think.Scott M wrote:All of sudden feeling rather nervous about tomorrow's game. Knowing a player for 2 months is plenty of time to know how good they are. Are you saying that if I had only discovered who Messi was two months ago, you wouldn't trust me when I'd say he's one of the best in the world?

I haven't seen Willian play enough to be able to have an educated idea about his ability, while you seem to think you have an idea of his ability
I am just saying I cannot trust your ability because you didn't have a good idea about who Henrikh was and you seem to have based your opinions of Henrikh off youtube clips and pre-season matches.

Youtube clips, pre-season matches, match compilations, comments from respected players/managers/journalists who watch him, comments from people who watched him regularly, etc are enough to form the opinion that he's quite the player.Chip wrote:I have seen Messi play so I do not need to take your opinionScott M wrote:I was testing you.

Pre-Season matches he played in like 1 maybe 2 pre-season matches against some shit teams
I'm not saying Henrikh isn't a good player but your comparison seemed to be based off very little actual evidence, you appear to have taken the ideas of other people mixed in with Youtube clips and come to the conclusion he is an outstanding player just below the level of the great Cristiano Ronaldo. Which I feel is a bit far fetched for a player who graced the Ukrainian League
Now you are saying Willian is just below the level of Ronaldo.
Basing this purely on stats Willian scored 37 goals in over 220 appearances for Shakhtar. If you look at his professional stats this chap has yet to score 50 goals in his career in over 270 professional games. Not exactly the kind of goalscoring winger you want.
£30M seems like a hefty fee for a player who has never really set the world on fire

That was just in regards to transfers/who's been rumoured to have been on the move/already moved this summer so far.
Ronaldo, Bale, Suarez etc are the really big names that have been linked with moves, Mkhitaryan, Willian, Soldado, Jovetic are the next tier down.
Not based on ability at all. More so, how big/well known they are.
Okay? I wouldn't put Suarez and Bale in the same bracket at Ronaldo if it was based on ability.
As for those stats on Willian, I see that you haven't included assists.
Last season, he had 13 appearances, scored 4 goals (all at Champions League level) and clocked 6 assists, meaning he directly contributed to 10 goals in 13 games, which is good, and what you'd expect from a class winger.
He got 4 man of the match awards in those 13 games too.
Compare those stats to Downing's stats for us last season. It would be a huge, huge upgrade and he'd be a massive signing for us.
