But he wasn't as good as he was before and he was eventually sold for much less than what was being speculated at the time of his refusal to play.Scott M wrote:Tevez did pretty well.Keyser Söze wrote:He will have known about his contract more than anyone. Why would his representatives advise him to mention legal action if they didn't think it was an option ?
He most likely won't be the same player. How can a player that's come out and said all the things he has then just put it behind him and act like it never happened
If you honestly think this won't effect him if he stays then

It may be a long shot but why make it harder for ourselves?Theo Filippo wrote:You're still way off 4th at the moment though, Arsenal haven't got weaker and Spurs have got stronger plus if Suarez decides not to play you are significantly weaker.Scott M wrote:We're serious about aiming for 4th this year. You surely must realise that we're looking a lot better now, with the signings from January and this summer, along with the outgoings. We've done enough in the transfer window to make up the 12 point gap, imo. Just got to see whether Arsenal bring in anyone of note.

Just because he didn't say in as stern a manner doesn't mean its not comparable. Torres didn't come out and publicly say he wanted to leave, didn't threaten court action, didn't sight broken promises and Chelsea didn't have two bids rejected. So obviously he wasn't going to say it in an aggressive tone since Liverpool position wasn't as weak then as it is now with Suárez.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
No it isn't the same at all. The quotes/article you've posted about Torres is from November, before the transfer window was even open. So, it's a completely different scenario. Chelsea hadn't even registered their interest until they started bidding for him during the last 2 days or so of the transfer window. Which brings me to my next point: Of course Torres didn't publicly state he wanted to leave/threaten court action/talk about broken promises, because it all happened so quickly on the last couple of days of the transfer window. He wouldn't even have had time to do all that. FYI, we did reject Chelsea's first few bids, so I don't know why you've said we didn't reject any.Keyser Söze wrote:Of course it is, you just don't understand. Finally. The article you've posted is more of a relaxed, interview style of chat. He's saying what he thinks. However, last night's was more of a proper full-on statement. He made it extremely clear this time and unless he wants to look like an utter spineless idiot, he wouldn't have said all that he said in such a statement-like manner, only to then go back on his word.
The reason Arsenal fans are bringing up previous quotes about Torres, etc, is because they're desperately deluding themselves into thinking that they still have a chance of signing him.
Lost out on Jovetic, held off from Higuain to concentrate on Suarez, causing Napoli to snap him up, and now losing out on Suarez.
Good luck bringing in anyone else of note.

Of course the scenario is different that's why the two comments are made in completely different tones. The point is that he said Torres wasn't going to be sold and he sold him 2 months later. Its not hard to understand but you're too busy wanking over Henry's comments and praying this time will be different
Also, you can't read. I didn't say Chelsea didn't have any bids rejected I said they didn't have two bids rejected. FSG only rejected one bid from them in January.
Well according to you Higuain turned us down. Even when faced with a amount of evidence to the contrary you still said Higuain turned us down. But now that this tweet involves Suárez you've suddenly changed your mind

Yes, Torres was sold 2 months later, but it was a deal we couldn't refuse. £50 million for a player we knew had problems and wouldn't reach his best again? Of course it wasn't going to be rejected.Keyser Söze wrote:I guess I was correct in saying you didn't understand.Scott M wrote:No it isn't the same at all. Do you really think Henry will go back on what he said last night for the amount Arsenal appear to be prepared to bid? No chance. Keep deluding yourself.
It's not clear whether Higuain turned Arsenal down or if Arsenal missed out on him by deluding themselves into thinking they could sign Suarez, but to be honest, both make me smile. So it's all good.

You'll probably say the same thing about Suárez when he signs for us. You even rejected a transfer request from Torres and still sold him three days later.Scott M wrote:Yes, Torres was sold 2 months later, but it was a deal we couldn't refuse. £50 million for a player we knew had problems and wouldn't reach his best again? I'm not really too worried about Liverpool's 'word' since its pretty worthless.
I have never once said we'd sign him for the amounts we've bid so far, so I don't know why you're putting words in my mouth.
So you've changed your mind again. You can't even form a simple opinion and stick to it

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
We rejected his transfer request because Chelsea's bid was too low at the time. As soon as they offered £50 million, we were happy and accepted it. IIRC, we also told Torres to put in the transfer request, to avoid paying him loyalty bonuses and ensure that we end up with the full £50 million.Keyser Söze wrote:You'll probably say the same thing about Suárez when he signs for us. I do not believe Wenger will be willing to meet Liverpool's valuation of Suarez, which is £60 million. I do not believe we will sell to you anyway, after Henry has said that we'd categorically not sell to Arsenal, especially.
If by some chance, you bid £60 million and we accepted, I'd say that's a cracking deal on our behalf It;s not going to happen though.
I'm not changing my mind, regarding the Higuain thing. Opinions change when new details come to light, that's normal. I think both situations are equally funny and as long as one of them is true, I'm happy.
I think you should stop obsessing over Suarez, jumping into this thread deluding yourself into thinking it's still going to happen and concentrate on the poor, poor summer you're having so far and how your board are a bunch of idiots.

Poor poor summer ? Last time I checked the player that effectively single handedly won us our league position isn't begging to leave to a rival (That happened last summer and the summer before). Its Liverpool that's having the poor summer, you think Alberto and Aspas make up for this embarrassing situation with Suárez ?
