What is worse? Fat Ronaldo playing in MLS this year, or Edgar Davids playing in BPL until 2014?

It was the second result for me, but besides the point. Think about all the work that RR put to google him, see his age, then respond to me. Imagine if he had just taken another second to look at the clubs, and then he wouldn't have looked like such a dunce. Alas, some people are just beyond help.

That's a response I'd expect from Roo Roo. Edgar might have been a bad example since he had previously played in BPL. My apologies.

The same year Ft. Lauderdale played in MLS?

Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) Thread
I'd say they are about on par. Barnet is in the 5th tier of English football, the Conference, so that is the level the NASL is at which makes the MLS at League 2 level.

33 year old (basically 34 by the time the season starts) Benoît Cheyrou has just joined the retirement home.

He has been smacking in 2/3 goals a season in Ligue 1 for a while now. He made the French TOTY for 3 consecutive years from 08-10, but he hasn't reached those heights since. He also won the Marseilles Mastre D'Or last season, which (according to Google translate) is a trophy that "rewards both its low level of play last season, and its intriguing qualities of the dressing room."ResurrectionRooney wrote:Has he ever played football himself or is he an Ali Dia type signing?Glen Miller wrote:

Somewhat similar story to the one last year with Defoe. Though no mentions of Giovinco's mother, like there were with Defoe's. And hopefully Giovinco doesn't find the Toronto press as mean to him as they were to Defoe.

I didn't realize Giovinco was 28 years old. For some reason I thought he was in the 23-24 age range.
Unrelated/ Read the meanest thing about Altidore today:
"There are a couple of ways to look at Defoe's purchase by Sunderland. If one considers it a simple replacement for Jozy Altidore, then of course their squad has improved. Then again, if you wired up a mannequin to make random movements and stuck it up front, that might be more use in the Premier League than the American"

Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) Thread
Yeah, I thought it was a bad move for him from the start, especially in a year leading up to the World Cup. Should have stayed at AZ. Competition isn't as great, but he'd at least be scoring goals regularly.
But, he's very limited as a striker anyway. He was started scoring against better competition internationally, Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Nigeria, Colombia, Chile in the past year and a half (Germany and Chile weren't top sides, mind), but that's about his peak. He will continue to be our striker though until another viable option comes along. Sad that one hasn't yet.

Really disappointing attendance for a closed door friendly
There'll be 65,000 for the first home game. Hopefully that's enough.

He's 31, wow. After he had that good season with Reading in the PL I thought he'd be a semi-decent PL player, 8 years later and he's done jack shit

Re: Major League Soccer (MLS) Thread
He was another one of the half-decent players Arsenal were told to buy as a Plan B back in the day. I think Liverpool considered bringing him in as a backup for Torres as well.
Reading had quite a few players who looked really competent for them but have since gone on to have atrocious careers. Steven Sidwell, David Kitson, Nicholas Shorey, Leroy Lita, plus a few others I may have missed.

Shane Long but he's gone on to have a so-so career. He never really recovered from this:

Colorado really trying to solidify 16th place again this year. He'll probably end up like Miller or Boyd. Score some goals, but not play well enough to warrant the money he's getting paid.

Massive coup if they get him, to leave such a big club like Cardiff where he was getting so much game time. And at only 35 years old they'll be getting his best years, MLS is certainly growing with signings like this!

Hard to believe it has been almost a decade since that magical year when he managed over 30 Premier League appearances in one season.
