The S League Thread Empty The S League Thread

Post by Guest Sun May 22, 2011 4:40 am

I'm probably not the only follower of the S League on here, as it is one of Eastern Asia's best national football leagues. For anyone that doesn't know, the S League is the national league of Singapore.

The league was launched in only 1996, and currently involves 12 clubs. The most successful club in the S League, are the Singapore Armed Forces, with an incredible 8 title wins. The current holders of the S League Championship are Etoile FC.

My favourite team are Home United, although they haven't won the league title since 2003. Their only other league title was back in 1999, which was a pretty impressive achievement as they were the 'Wooden Spoonist' only 2 years before. (The Wooden Spoonist is the leagues bottom team)

For anyone wanting to watch the S League, then the best way to do so is Streams. Other than that, you can watch Football Asia on Sky Sports for a weekly round up of games.

Link to the Current League Table, which is proving to be very tight:

Dude the s-league is garbage, amateur players from Australia regularly go over there and become instant stars, anyone with a half decent football background as low as academy level could go over there and make a quick buck

Alex Duric is the best player over there and he couldn't even get an a-league contract. Hes still playing at 40 years age and dominating every week and is so good that they naturalized him and now hes singapores best player

Pohang Steelers are in the K League aren't they?

I always watch Football Asia, and the S League entertains me the most eek2

There have been a total of 73 matches played this season, with 193 goals scored, an average of 2.64 per match.

Etoile FC are a disgrace tbh. All the players are French, or of French descent Neutral

But then again, the S League allows foreign teams to participate. There have been teams from Beijing in the league before

Frederic Mendy is my favourite player. He's scored 7 goals in 11 games for my favourite team, Home United. They signed him from Etoile aswell laugh

Their annual domestic cup competition sends invites to second tier Australian clubs to compete in yearly

I suppose it is only a small country though. I think it's quite ambitious how they want to have quite a big domestic cup, rather than just the few teams that play in the country entering
