As others said, it's financially better for them to stay in the CL. It's even more prestigious. As a fan, I would want to get knocked out at the quarterfinals against Real Madrid than win the Europa League.

I concur. The increased reputation you get from playing well in the Champions League also helps the club attract better players, and "hidden gems".

tbh, i never would've even heard of APOEL had they not been playing in the CL

if they had beaten Lyon in the europa league, i'd probably wouldn't give a shit or even care to find out

so in terms of advertising their brand, as well as receiving TV rights, CL is simply better than EL for APOEL

Well this was a great run for APOEL but since they were very unlikely to win the whole thing it is time to move their focus elsewhere. They need to focus on winning the Cypriot First Division. Right now they are only in 3rd place in the league and out of the cup. If they fall down to 4th place there will be no Europe at all for APOEL next year.

I think APOEL might of had a chance if they would have got to play the away leg first. When they played against Wisła Kraków and Lyon they played away first.
