Basically an icon is just someone who is a representative symbol of their club/the league.
Gerrard and Suarez do that for Liverpool and I think Carroll does too, even if it's for the wrong reasons.

Van Nistelrooy could never be in there, he only stayed at United for 5 years and only won one Premier League. The likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Owen, Cantona, Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Neville, Schmeichel, Shearer, Ronaldo, Rooney, they'd all be ahead of him.
