We lacked a defensive midfielder, because that midfield was all over the place. No one covering for the full backs when they attack, and Wigan had far too much time in front of the back four. He wins the ball back more than anyone else in the side, how many proper tackles did you see our lads put in tonight? When he plays, he sets a tempo in the pressing department that the others keep up with, when he pushes up, the team pushes up. When he wins the ball back, he moves it on, nothing fancy, no 15 touches to get it out of his feet, he does his job. The quicker you win the ball back and the higher up the pitch you win it back, the more chance you have of turning defence into attack.

Without him we don't win it back quick enough, they have more time, they find their rhythm easier and we lose control of the game. What happens when we don't have control of the game? We can't fucking score. Next time you want to be smart, do it when you know you're not making yourself look like a sarcastic prick.

I didn't say I wanted him over Young, I said he was more consistent at Villa, I didn't want either him or Young and imo Young has not changed my mind, he's inconsistent as fuck.

Yes because United actually have players that can finish off chances he makes. Liverpool don't have that player right now.

Great point by alap. Assists is a two way thing lets not forget. He's set plenty up... we're not finishing them.

We can't break down a team. When a team parks the bus, all are strikers and midfielders offer no movement. We have no one on the last man, willing to make a run.

Suarez tends to drop deep, and likes to link up play. Same with Maxi.

Downing when he makes a run, isn't that bad, but most of the time he doesn't run into space to receive the ball.

Kuyt. Still wondering what he does.

And Adam and Henderson aren't midfielders, that would run into the box late. They play deep.

We need a striker, as Dean says. Like Torres.

We dropped points when we really shouldn't have even with Lucas in the team allowing us more possession, if we were conceding goals all over the place you'd have a point but we're not at the moment. The only thing we are missing is a clinical finisher.

with your best striker out for 8 games its a good thing you have a £35m striker to call on

Don't agree with the bolded, that was one of our worst performances of the season. That's coming from someone who has tried to see the positives out of every game in which we've dropped points, but tonight I couldn't see any.
In the other draws/losses we've created chances, bossed the game and played with a high tempo. Tonight we didn't do any of those things, apart from the first 15 minutes we never had full control of the match, we weren't creating clear cut chances, I can't think of one at all other than Johnno's and perhaps Kuyt's. It was too slow, we weren't fizzing it round like we usually do, sure, the pitch wasn't great, but it's no excuse, we should have picked them apart every 5 minutes, but we were too predictable. Awful performance on the whole in my opinion.

Agree with all of that. Especially the bit about Suarez, if he had someone like Torres alongside him who was willing to stay on the last man and wait for a chance, he'd have much more freedom to roam and influence the game from outside the box. Now, when he does that, it leaves a huge gap where the centre backs are. Infuriating stuff.

What I have seen from Carroll, he isn't a player to play on the last man either. For some reason (Don't know whether it is his style, or under instruction) he tries to do to much outside the box. Linking up play ect ..

When he does link up play (he has improved), he should be busting a gut to get in the box to receive it. But he doesn't. He slowly jogs towards the goal. So we have a winger running down the wing, with no one to cross too.

So many questions, no answers.

An other thing, when Downing and Carroll do pass. They aren't moving into space. Instead they are casual doing nothing. No pass and move. Enrique and Downing on the left, is not working. Enrique is looking for Downing to make a run (or move somewhere to pass too) , instead Downing runs towards Enrique. Man, crazy shit.

That's what's been annoying me about Carroll, you rarely see him in the box during a counter attack or even trying to get on to a cross and the odd occasion when he does get into the box he falls on his ass because of his inability to challenge in the air.
