I have no doubt they believe he is innocent. However that is not going to matter if the verdict sticks. I believe Kenny Dalglish is loyal to a fault, and that his legal team of experts and PR representatives are being incompetent in advising him on how to proceed. His reputation will live on as being that of a man loyal to his players and that of the club, that he trusts the people around him, even to a fault. At worst Dalglish will be considered to have been betrayed by a player he trusted.
However, the verdict has a miniscule chance of being overturned, which means that at the moment Liverpool FC is in self destruct mode. Be disappointed, and express a desire to appeal, but don't be an idiot about it. They are putting the entire reputation of the club on the word of a player that has been there for a single year. One that has been found guilty and is unlikely to have that overturned.
Whomever is releasing these statements, and organizing these "support actions" are making sure that if Suarez' verdict sticks, a situation they have no control over, and that from a legal standpoint has very little chance of being overturned), your club is forever tarnished. All over the idiocy and lack of composure from whomever is in charge here.
Have you not understand a word I have said?
Nobody gives a fuck what it means for Liverpool FC. There are things more important than football? This is about the life of one man, who has been labelled a racist. If that sticks, it will follow him wherever he goes, for the rest of his life. You do realise what this means for Suarez himself?
The club believe he is innocent, and I'd feel more disgraced if the club didn't try to push to clear Suarez' name if they felt so.
Yet you are missing the point entirely. There are a million different ways of treating this matter without risking the clubs reputation in the process. The fact that Liverpool are going out of their way in being bullish about it only risks the clubs reputation and has no impact what so ever in any appeal.
I agree completely that the club should do everything they can to protect Suarez if they believe he is innocent, but do it professionaly. Get the appeal process started, find the experts that you need to prove your case, and express your disappointment (without being a ranting lunatic about it) and desire to appeal.
As I said, you do not let him out to dry, but you do not risk the club's reputation on it.
