Re: Book Thread
Only books I have ever read in my own time is The Lord Of The Rings books, and some random Greek Mythology thing. They were good, may need to read some more.

Re: Book Thread
I've read:
Interpreter of Maladies
The God of Small Things
Things Fall Apart
Purple Hibiscus
In the past couple of months. I've got loads to read for my course too, just can't be bothered.

Re: Book Thread
Things Fall Apart is weird man, its pretty cool though to read an authentically African book, not just someone writing as if they were African.
Do you do English Zzonked?

Yeah, Things Fall Apart was pretty good. Yeah, I do English.
It's hard to find time to read for pleasure when you have to get through like 1-2 a week for uni.

I've applied to do English, what do you make of it? Also what career do you want to do?

Re: Book Thread
It's not bad, quite easy because I'm only in like 6 hours a week, but the reading can get on top of you if you don't keep up with it. Where have you applied?
No idea what I want to do after uni, just winging it really. English was my best subject and I thought it might be interesting.

Queens in Belfast. Well actually the course is English with Creative Writing.
Would you recommend it then?

I read a couple of the short stories in there. I really enjoyed the cultural diversity of the characters.

I have to read The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency for English atm and La Salamandre for French
Used to read for pleasure quite a lot but I don't really have time now.
Will definitly read Ibrahimovic's autobiography when it comes out (check Splashy's sig for a sneak peek ) and probably Phillip Lahm's one as well

Exactly the course I'm going for. Haven't applied yet, but that's my main option. Is that English lit, language or just English?
We could end up in the same Uni and all.

Re: Book Thread
I think they only really do English lit at uni, that's what I gathered when I was applying anyway.
Where are you applying to Witcher, Queens as well?

Re: Book Thread
Fuck no. Have like ten options I selected, have to narrow them down.
I'm doing English lit at sixth form right now, thanks to a lack of choice. Was the only English subject going. Writing's my thing anyway, hence creative writing.

Tolkien's books are easily the best. Not just the trilogy, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Going to start reading all 24 books of Odyssey, by Homer. This is going to take a while, will greatly advance my Classical Civilization knowledge.

It always seem like everyone has read all of the same books at English, such as To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye, for example.

I have a decent English class, so we were able to read through it without too many interruptions, which was good.
