I was going to read this, but someone said that 1/3 of the book was in a different language. Is this true?Clark wrote:A Clockwork Orange is still my favourite novel.

Re: Book Thread
Sort of. There's basically just a lot of slang words that don't exist in the real world, I think inspired from Russian.

I'm down for that. I pick up on slang quite quickly. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I am socially hip.

Re: Book Thread
There is a glossary in some versions (like the 50th anniversary edition).
A lot of the words are pretty obvious, some will have no similarities to what it means. It is a mix of Cockney slang and Russian.
Only a short novel anyway.

Just finished The Birth of Tragedy by Friedrich Nietzsche. Strange that this is the last of his major works I read yet it was his first published. Probably my favourite, just because of his insight into the Greek theatre and literature. I do agree with him when he says it is defective in many ways. As always, a difficult but enlightening read.
And I purchased The Communist Manifesto, maybe it will change my opinion on Communism.

Read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This edition only had 4 of the 5 books. Probably the funniest novel I've read.

Liked the first two or three books, but down to the end it just got ridiculous.

Nah, it didn't. Still think Communism is the most flawed idea ever.
The book was pretty good, though. About 150 pages of explanation, and had a preface for the German, Russian, Italian and other nations' editions of the text.

The Symposium: Plato.
Great book, even though Plato wrote what Socrates said, the man is undoubtedly the greatest thinker of all time.
