Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2011 shortlist
Lots of good players but realistically it would be daft to suggest anyone but Messi would win it. Too incomparable to anyone in any position.
The coach is a lot more interesting, Guardiola stopped coaching a couple years ago though now he just sits there and watches lol. I think AVB deserves it more

Fabregas played for us and was consistently nominated, no one can deny Robin is up there with some of the best for his form in 2011.Scouser_Dave wrote:Steadman wrote:Not sure what else Robin needs to do to get a nomination.

Maybe it's a dutch thing, remember Sneijder's controversial exclusion last year?

He's been absolute shit for the past year, plus I used him as an example against James' terrible logic.Scouser_Dave wrote:Steadman wrote:

I was thinking that too, but Messi's success and inclusion (although he is an exception to most if not all rules) shows international success isn't necessary

Good point, maybe he has to actually win a trophy as an important player in a team.

This is for 2011, he has performed decently in the Euro qualifiers for Holland.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Perform at an international tournament?Steadman wrote:Not sure what else Robin needs to do to get a nomination.

Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2011 shortlist
Yeah, but a good international tournament elevates a player's standing massively, in the long term as well. If van Fascist had dominated the World Cup, rather than being at best the third most important player, he'd be in this list now, just like Sneijder is. Sneijder hasn't been better than van Rapist in 2011, but that's why he's up there (along with his Treble success).Steadman wrote:This is for 2011, he has performed decently in the Euro qualifiers for Holland.ResurrectionRooney wrote:Perform at an international tournament?

My version of the truth? There aren't any versions of the truth, there's what RR says, and there are lies.
Playing a big role in Arsenal winning a big trophy would do wonders for his profile, his international standing. If he scores 50 goals this season and Arsenal win nothing, go out in the Last 16 to Barca again, finish 3rd, maybe win the Cup, he might get nominated but he won't win it. If he does that and you win the Treble with him playing a big role, perhaps avoiding the big teams in Europe, he'd win it.

Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2011 shortlist
Yeah I understand what your saying, but there is always appreciation for players that stand out at their club. The performances of players like Cavani, Lavezzi and also Sanchez last season greatly improved their profile. Robin wasn't horrible at the World Cup either.
Either way, the award is Messi's to lose

None of those have been nominated either, and Messi will win it, there's almost no doubt about that.

Marcelo should be there instead of Abidal.
Cavani and RVP > Benzema and Forlan
Silva > Nani/Ozil/Sneijder
What do they get payed/rewarded with for being on the shortlist?

Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2011 shortlist
I'm sure there is at least one player in Europe with a Ballon D'or shortlist clause in his contract.
Agree with Grenade's edits but Ozil deserves to be there (26 assists last year dude), Silva over Sneijder though.

Yeah no doubt Ozil has been good but I can't understand how they left Silva out of the list.
Also no Ibrahimovic
or Thiago Silva
Or Ribery
Or Hummels
Or even Vidic along with the other players I mentioned.
I mean seriously.... FUCKING FORLAN?

He's been abysmal for most of 2011.

It's slowly turning into a popularity contest, the most deserving player doesn't win anymore.

What?
The only winner that's shocked me over the past couple of years is Fabio Cannavaro, the rest have been deserved winners.

Re: FIFA Ballon d’Or 2011 shortlist
Funny that Neymar gets announced for the shortlist a day before the supposed £53M move to Real Madrid is announced. Ah the joy of being 19 and making £1M/month.
