If it turns out Evra was lying then he should be fined/banned, you can't go around making such accusations this has the potential to ruin Suarez's whole career.

Liverpool will fight any punishment handed out to Luis Suarez over allegations he directed racist abuse at Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Anfield and want the Frenchman punished if the accusations prove false, according to the Guardian.

Evra confronted Suarez during the match and afterwards approached referee Andre Marriner with manager Sir Alex Ferguson to raise the issue, and later brought it up again in an interview for French TV channel Canal Plus.

He claims the Uruguayan used racist language towards him at least 10 times during the match, while Suarez unequivocally denies the accusations.

The Football Association will contact United today to clarify whether Evra intends to make an official complaint before deciding whether to begin a full investigation into the incident.

If a full investigation is opened, it is likely Evra will need corroborating evidence from several of his United team-mates in order to convince a disciplinary panel of the validity of his case, although it is not yet clear whether anyone else was privy to the exchanges between the two men.

Back in 2008 the Frenchman alleged he was the target of racial abuse from a Chelsea groundsman as he was warming down after a match at Stamford Bridge, which led to an on-pitch brawl for which the defender received a four-match ban.
