Re: Safe Standing
Eh, that's stupid. How do you expect football to stay as big as it is if children aren't introduced to the game at a young age?
Safe standing is something I'd forget about, as nice as it would be, it'll never happen in the Premier League or the Football League (now I think they're working on keeping their rules the same)
It's time the clubs take responsibility if they want a good atmosphere, it would be so easy to make an 18+ section only, unreserved seating, proper family stands where there are worthwhile offers for families to have a better incentive to sit in there.

Re: Safe Standing
It's so simple, make a family stand and then safe standing. Children would still go to the football, i was first introduced to football by going on a full terrace with my dad.

Why couldn't the sides be family/seated areas, while the ends of the grounds terraced areas?

Re: Safe Standing
Most stadiums already have family stands, they just aren't priced appropriately therefore they spread around the ground.

It's how they set stadiums up here in Australia
Given that we're all seaters but the active support areas are normally on the ends (given it's only one stand due to low support ) while family/general admission are on the sides.

The atmosphere bit is a good point it would be easy to have one if you got everyone in a section not far from the away fans.butdidyouknowthatiama wrote:Eh, that's stupid. How do you expect football to stay as big as it is if children aren't introduced to the game at a young age?

I can't really see a viable counter argument to the introduction of safe standing. But sadly we live in a world of the vastly ignorant, where those that make the rules are only interested in satisfying those ignorant masses.

From my experience being near away fans does not generate an atmosphere, well not a positive atmosphere. I'm on the side that the singers should be opposite the away fans, support the team rather than wind up the opposition.
But maybe that's because I went to the football there was more than average amount of idiots around.
Do you remember the Millwall thing? Hull fans actually started it by chucking bottles at them 20 minutes before kick off, just everyone blamed Millwall based on their history.

I remember watching an A-League match and people were just sat on a grassy hill at the side of the pitch, it genuinely looked like the most amazing thing ever .

Re: Safe Standing
Few clubs coming out in support with Hull, Palace and Bristol City today.
http://www.fsf.org.uk/news/Crystal-Palace-...Campaign.php?id
Link for Palace above
It's good that clubs do want fans to have the option to stand and with this option stewards won't be able to hassle us for standing like at some clubs.

Re: Safe Standing
There is an EDM going for safe standing as well at the moment
http://fsfsafestandingcampaign.appspot.com/mp/write
Here is a tool to find your local MP's
http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2012-13/573
The signatures from the MP's are above as well.
I emailed two round my area but had no reply.. If anyone is interested then there's a rough a draft which you will just need to change the words around slightly.

Re: Safe Standing
Would be nice to see this at Forest. I'd imagine it would be out in A and or B Block, and possibly the Corner. That's where our vocal sections are. Although I, and many other fans, would rather see a reshuffle and have the away fans in half of the Brian Clough stand or in lower Brian Clough stand. Then Forest fans can have lower Bridgford end which is the loudest area in the ground. It's no wonder teams like Leeds and Derby come to our place and do well when they have 4500 fans dominating the noise cos they're in the best place in the ground.
If we move fans down the side instead they can have allocations of around 2500 and won't have as much of an influence on the game

You could definitely do it behind the goal, would probably be better being honest if you did a reshuffle.

Re: Safe Standing
I doubt we'll be in support seeing as we are waiting the final stages to be complete so we can build our new all seated stadium.
It's a shame, I love standing. Even at away games when it's seated I stand.

Re: Safe Standing
Yeah Bristol Rovers is an odd one as you seem more against it... I would have thought a club who has had standing for many years would be in favour.
Standing on a terrace for Salford is brilliant from the old ground to the new and I would love for it to be the same at football as at Crawley the other week the atmosphere was a lot better in the terrace.

Re: Safe Standing
Hull have been supporting this for a while, they had stuff on the website pretty much saying if they get the go ahead then they'll be changing.
It'll probably happen soon, there is too much support for it, Hillsbrough has now been blamed on the police so they can't fall back on that and safe standing already happens in other countries.

Just come to away games with Leeds, never seen a single person sat down. I swear sometimes I even see people in the wheelchair bit stood up leaning on the railings infront for support.

Since the new readings for Hillsborough it has definitely now moved safe standing in to a positive direction because as you say the argument can't be fallen back on as standing wasn't the problem on that fatal day.
Got in touch with our director and we are backing it so although we are a League 1 club its another positive step to have clubs working with the fans.

Re: Safe Standing
I think safe standing can work but it needs to be handled very carefully. Like while it might make sense that a standing section ticket to cost less but it cannot. Knowing the whole history of things I believe that would be just asking for trouble. A plan has to exist if things do not work out and perhaps the standing sections should have a few more stewards nearby at least at the very start.
