Post by ResurrectionRooney Fri Sep 16, 2011 8:30 am

What are your thoughts on this? I reckon it'd be great, you could get more people in, and you'd have better atmospheres. It would be safer for away fans than the current arrangement as well, as they'll be standing in a stadium designed for you to stand in, rather than for you to sit in.

NB: I would like to ask that no over-emotional scousers to post in this thread please, last time we had this thread angry scousers tries to show they are true Liverpool fans with a load of faux outrage over 1 particular disaster. Using it to support your point is fine, but please no overly emotional shit or crass generalisations.

It should hopefully be re-instated soon. Needs to be done to bring atmosphere back to games.

We have standing areas. It works fine. No problems at all with it. I'm all for it.

    Terrace > Seats.

English football would experience much greater atmopsheres in the top tier imo.

Would be a way for the working class to get back to watching games as terrace would be cheaper and more people could fit in.

From a recreational point of view I see no problem with it. But from a business point of view, it's a whole different story. You can't charge some one £30-£60 to stand up and watch a game, but if you have seats, you can.

It should be allowed. Capacity can increase by around 10,000+ which would be a huge financial plus, with extra tickets and no need for expanding the stadium. Dortmunds stadium can hold 80,000 for league games when they are allowed to stand. Where as for champions league games they can easily use seats to fit in with regulations, which reduces capacity to 65,000.

They use these - Safe Standing Safe%20standing2

    I'm all for it.

The thing is in the top tier of English football there are too many corporates and day trippers who rather sit down and watch a game than stand up and experience a better atmosphere.

You can fit more people in a standing area then you can from a seating area so the clubs won't lose any revenue.

Clubs are more interested in corporates, than the 'working class' fan now days. That's where the money is.

I don't understand why it's alright for the lower tiers and not the top 2. If the government think it's dangerous; why do they let the lower league clubs have terracing?

Do they want lower league fans to die? shifty

Yes there should be standing areas. Can't wait for Peterborough, shame they're redeveloping the terraced away end into seating soon after though. Sad

Doesn't bother me too much at away games though, we all stand anyway.

It would be good if it came back, it would be much safer than it use to be although you wouldn't get more people in because it would still have to be done as this pic shows for it to be safe enough.

I don't get how those seat-terraces work. Surely sat on those seats the metal in front would block your view?

Amazing. Standing already happens in seated areas which is way more dangerous. If people want to cause trouble they will do whether they sit down or stand up. We aren't all fat Yanks and struggle to get off our arses onto our feet. What a Face

It's fantastic at Crawley, the home and away terraces were buzzing with noise on Tuesday. Definitely adds to the atmosphere.

I don't get how standing makes for a better atmosphere. You can easily sing while sitting down too. Standing can also cause problems by blocking the view of the people behind you.

They should have a small section for standing just to offer a cheaper option.

Go ask yourself why singers stand up most of the time.

Obviously there would be standing and seating sections, people aren't asking for full grounds of standing. Safe Standing 58503
