Is Darren Bent world class?

Well if Rooney leaves in January, why doesn't SAF take a punt on bent? Berbatov + Bent Bentatov almost as good as Bendtnertov but not quite.

I'd like to see Bent at United, a lot.

But I don't think we'd replace Rooney, all of the money we get for him will go to the Glazers debt.

Rafael hasn't done anything to be considered world class. Suddenly Tottenham get him and he is world class when this same time last season Tottenham supporters or anyone for that matter wasn't saying he was world class.

I thought Robben played well for Real Madrid when he was given the chance to play and actually played in position. Wesley started out on fire for Real Madrid and then just vanished, much like the rest of the team did, but I wouldn't say that either of them played badly.

If you look at Robben and Wesley, they both went to better situations with Inter and Bayern and recaptured their form. Rafael is doing some of that with Tottenham, but he still isn't as good as he was when he was with HSV. During his time at HSV he was easily one of the best if not the best player in the league.

Well for example, would Man. United fans complain if Darren Bent came in as a replacement for Rooney if he leaves? I'm sure they would expect someone world class (Bent isn't world class, but he is brilliant), but Darren Bent is a goalscorer - and that's all you want from strikers at the end of the day.

Don't care whether people think he's world class (regarding VDV)

He's in the form of his life at the moment with us (fuck off if you disagree tbh) and I'm loving it. He's the closest player in our squad to being world class IMO.

Robben is no less of the main man then than he is now. He ripped shit up back when they won the league.

Yeah but just like he smashed in 23 goals, and he was talked about one of the best, he wasn't doing that before.

At times Robben was unstoppable at Real.

Bent is a good striker, but I wouldn't rank him as world class just yet. It also helps that his teams highly depend on his goalscoring. He needs to play with a top club against top opponents.

I think far too many people fling around the classification "world class" for player that are otherwise just good players and nothing more.

That depends on how you definde world class, which is a rather subjective opinion.

Banging in 24 goals for a team that isn't in the top of the league is, IMO, rather impressive. However, other factors can also be applied here, foor example work rate, amount of assists and general ability. I must admit I haven't seen enough of Darren Bent to decide if he's world class, but he does score a lot of goals, and it would be interesting to see him play regularly for a top club.

Not all of it. They do still spend some cash on players. How much would Bent cost?

Well he cost Sunderland like £10m minimum upfront with add ons. So I'd imagine they'd want that and some more back if they were to sell him. Seeing as they are over reliant on him scoring the goals.

If they'll give Sir Alex £7 million to buy some zygote that Sir Alex has never seen play, they'd surely authorize £25m for an international who seems to score every chance he gets. Especially if they just offloaded Rooney for £40m.

Most world class strikers would have put that opportunity away yesterday. So no.
