    Darren Bent Empty Darren Bent

Post by Guest Sun Apr 03, 2011 9:29 am

    Ipswich - Relgated
Charlton - Figthing relegation, eventually relegated
    Tottenham - Underachieved
    Sunderland - Fighting relegation
    Aston Villa - Underachieving

At the first 4 clubs he was pretty much their main scorer. He has made a fairly good goalscoring start at Villa too. But why does every team he plays in do shit or underachieve?

Looking at his stats in the league

    Ipswich 47 in 122
    Charlton 31 in 68
Spurs 18 in 60 (was top scorer one season despite not even being a main striker)
    Sunderland 32 in 58
Villa (not sure of exact stats after todays game. It says on wikipedia it was 5 in 9 before today so must be 7 in 10 now)

    So. scratch

Ipswich had just finished in the top 7.
    Fair enough about Charlton.
And Sunderland are a pretty big club with an owner that has invested a fair bit of money into the team.

Sunderland fought relegation before this season with Bent. They finished 16th then 13th last season.

Fair enough, it's a bit weird but he seemed to score very often with Sunderland.

He scored 24 league goals last season. I just don't understand how this is possible and then his team go on to do so shit in the league.

Also, would this man be scoring 30+ league goals for Man U?

Pretty obviously because he only does well in a team that sets up to supply him and only him. He's a good goalscorer but very limited player which hurts the team overall. Plus he's not good enough to play in a top team.

I always though that Jamie. But watching more, he actually runs the channels, he isn't that bad at holding the ball up. Sure he isn't brilliant all round, but he isn't completely shit. Maybe times will change with Villa next season once Houllier is sacked.

Not so sure why he left Sunderland still though. Team on the up, spending money, big stadium + attendances.

I don't think he's shit, just not up to champions league level when it comes to all round play. Well...he'd make a decent squad player but he wouldn't be a 1st choice so I'd say he wouldn't get 30 goals for a bigger team.

Agree about the Sunderland bit yeah, seems strange from his point of view.

I think he would do well if he played for Arsenal/United. To get a scoring record like that at clubs with not alot of class in them is very difficult.

Yes and no...a player with the pace and finishing ability of Bent will always do well for a club that sets up to feed him. Would he get the same set up at Arsenal or United? I really doubt it, he's not a good enough player to build your team around. At Charlton especially the team was designed to get the ball for Bent to run onto ASAP. In comparison to other players at Arsenal Bent would pretty much be sacrificing a player in the build up, which would be detrimental to the team.

Arsenal need that type of poacher though. RVP isn't that type of striker, and Chamakh and Bendtner aren't as good as Bent. Neutral

Who would you drop from Arsenal's team to play Bent? He's better than none of their starting attacking players.

I was going to make a thread the other day, debating who would get more goals - A striker at a top club, getting support for top players. Orrrrrrr playing for a lesser side, where most attacks go through the striker.
But I thought it was me being weird again. silent

Disagree, Arsenal need someone who can be involved in buildup, set up other etc, its vital to how they play.

Indeed. Darren Bent is a poacher, not an all round striker but damn good at putting the ball in the back of the net.

RVP is perfect for how Arsenal play, but hes just injured all the time.

    -------------Bent-----------
    Nasri-------RVP-------Walcott
    ------Fabregas--Wilshere-----

Not having Song wouldn't hurt us with that formation because RVP would be in his best position and with Jack and Fab beside each other we would hardly ever lose posession, Also both of them can put in a tackle.

I agree with Irish, I think Bent and Parker are very similar in terms of skill (relative to position) and how they are precieved in England. Good players for 6/7th place - 20th place clubs, but don't think they can break that elite level.

He is. But you don't need an out and out DM if you have 2 box-to-box players who work really hard, put in tackles but most of all never lose the ball. Jack and Fabregas > Jack and Song imo.

We saw them 2 there against Barcelona when Song went off and then we smashed 2 in and the link up between Fab and Jack for the 2nd goal was top class.
