    Liverpool is in no major competitions and still has an overly huge squad with way too many midfielders that will just create locker room drama.

    Gerrard, Downing, Adam, Shelvey, Spearing, Meireles, Lucas, Maxi, Kuyt, Henderson, Cole, Poulsen, etc.

    Is just a mess waiting to happen coaching wise.

    Bold = Going/won't feature at all unless we're in a crisis.
    Italic = Bench/back-up.
    The rest are starters. Adam could easily be dropped and we could keep Aquilani but meh.

    Meireles and Maxi won't want to be backups. Meireles especially, he is miles better then Adam and imo he is one of the best midfielders in the league. And Cole and Poulsen will think they are better then they are and also want to leave. You think its easy to just tell a player like Joe Cole "hey buddy I know you used to be great but you're shit now so you're a backup." believe it or not some players wouldn't take too kindly to that

    Cole wants to stay. As does Poulsen. Meireles isn't that good - Adam is better. Maxi will definitely be a back-up.
    Basically what you said, but the opposite.

    Suspect Debatable..

    I agree I think Meireles is much better then Adam, Meireles was fantastic last season.

    Raul was frustrating at times. On his day, he was a very good player. Went through that scoring patch, then died down again. Inconsistent, and had not nailed down a position in the squad.

    I guess you Liverpool people saw him more then me but I thought he was great, Charlie Adam could be a flop waiting to happen despite his great season last year.

    That applies with pretty much every signing a team makes. Meireles is a nice guy and works hard, but otehr than his work rate, he doesn't add anything to the central midfield role. We have a solid, steady and simple midfielder in Lucas who does his job well. We need a creative midfielder with flair to go alongside him. Meireles has a good shot, but that's it, no pace, no skill, average range of passing. He doesn't offer much defensively either. I don't like ripping our own players but I'll be pretty peeved if Meireles is a starter next season.

    This is what happens when you have Europa League football. The Champions League standard players exit and Europa League standard replaces them.

    Infact I would say that Carroll, Henderson and Adam are not even Europa League standard, so yees, certainly a massive decline in the standard at Liverpool eek

    This is tough.

    Meireles does alot of things well but Adam does some things amazing.

    I think this can only be really judged after Adam has played a season for Liverpool because at Blackpool he had to try and hit a "hollywood pass" every chance he could so they could score goals. He won't need to do that at Liverpool because they have better quality players so his game will be different.
