I personally never rated him much but he is a rock and an asset on set pieces.

Re: Best centre back in the world?
He is. I've said it many times before. Probably people getting ahead of themselves, which to be fair they have a right too now and then after his performances v some top teams in Europe.
To be the best in the world, you need a lot more to your game than Vidic has. Alex, Pepe, Kompany, etc all play the same way he does and I wouldn't really call them the best in the world.

Re: Best centre back in the world?
I've noticed the modern defender now seems to be much more technical than just tackling, their scoring more goals, faster, have better dribbling abilities. Is it just me who's noticed this?

I already said Carvalho on the first page. Still think he's the best. He has around 2 years left in him I would say.Sean wrote:Who would you Marv?
Then I think it will probably be Pique, unless Silva, Chiellini or Kompany beast it in next couple of years.

Chiellini is only a couple months older than Silva. I thought Silva was 23/24 and Chiellini was 30/31.

And I don't expect people to agree with me anyway and that's fine by me.

Aquivaldo Mosquera is also just a beast. Oh and Tim Ream, Omar Gonzales and Chad Marshall aren't too shabby.

How in the world can Pique be the best when Sir Alex Ferguson deemed that Jonny Evans is a better defender?

Re: Best centre back in the world?
Surely SAF wasn't hedging his bets on Evans being better for just the next season, which means Evans must still be a better defender.
