Looks like we have a couple of haters in here. I don't give a toss if you like Pele or not, but bashing him for no apparent reason is one thing.
Who cares if the commercial wasn't realistic or original? Brazil fans really love Pele and they wanted to make a commercial about his dream to score his final goal with Brazil. It's honoring his time with Brazil. This commercial is for Brazil and Pele fans. If you don't fall in that category, then the commercial is not targeting you.
If people love Pele and love this commercial, let them be. They don't care about your opinion on the man and this isn't exactly the topic to bring it up in.

I wasn't asking anyone to care about my opinion. I'm not bashing his play either.

Pele is overrated.
Nani > Pele, until you've had Poulsen assisting you, there's no way you can be called one of the greatest.

Basically Pele is everything that is good about the game! his acheivements on the field are second to none and his legacy is yet to be matched. Zidane is the greatest talent i have seen in my lifetime and he dosn't come close to Pele in terms of influence and reputation.
for any football fan to not hold Pele with the highest regard bemuses me. he is the single most important footballer of all time!
for anyone to "not give a toss" about Edison "Edson" Arantes do Nascimento KBE - aka Pele, shows that they really are on a different level to me and anyone else for that matter who can appreciate the importance of this great great man - levelled up, my arse!
to my mind he is South America's most decorated footballer from an era when South American club football was the best in the World. oh and he won 3 World Cups.

In all seriousness, I don't have much feeling for Pele at all, because from what I've seen of him, he doesn't excite me like more modern football does, but I respect him for his achievements and how big his name is in football.
I've always rated the likes of Maradona and Cruyff higher than Pele, even Zidane and Ronaldo (Luis).

i wouldn't utter the names of Pele and Maradona in the same breath. (this is text so it dosn't count).
Diego Maradona is a drug riddled cheat. cant wait for him to die, im not joking either. the filthy fucking cunt.

Pele >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Maradona. Maradona is a cheat but a little harsh saying you cant wait for him to die. The people in here bashing Pele are obviously just retards who think Ronaldo or Messi is the best ever player
Guest- Guest
I'm talking about as a footballer, purely based on footballing ability.
Messi is one of the best players ever based on footballing ability, you're just one of them retards that think a player can't be one of the best footballers because he isn't from 20 years ago.
Pele was obviously class and one of the best, just not my cup of tea, just because people don't agree about him doesn't mean we're "bashing" him.

So now Pele doesnt have as much footballing "ability" as fat Ronaldo. Nice one jeeves

If I had a choice between Pele or Luis Ronaldo in their prime, I'd take Ronaldo.

Maybe thats because youve never seen Pele in his prime. Dont say youve seen videos because highlight videos arent anything to go by. Fat Ronaldo was good but nowhere near Pele

Exactly, so why should I think he's the best ever?

Did you watch Pele live?
You can't say someone is the best ever when you probably haven't even watched a whole 90 minutes of them. Yes Pele's record is amazing but you can't say someone is the best when you haven't watched them alot. Everyone has their own opinion, people from Pele's day will say he was the best and still is the best ever, same as Maradona's era and again now the same with the Ronaldo (Luis), Messi, Zidane era.

Yeah. Ive actually see a lot of his full games. I did a report on him for my sports course in college. Ive seen quite a lot of his games. How anybody can claim fat Ronaldo has more footballing ability than Pele is laughable

I think Henry > Pele as well, I think if you put Henry and Pele on the same pitch right now both in their prime, Henry would stand out as the better player, could be wrong though, just how I feel.

Pele was an amazing player but alot of people don't realise the game has advanced leaps and bounds since the 50's. It would be impossible to score over 1000 goals in your career nowadays.

Yeah technology has advanced. Its made the game a lot easier. Pele scored over 1000 goals kicking a heavy lump of leather, pros now kick a lighweight ball which is designed by scientists to be struck perfectly. Pele used a plain pair of boots. Pros again used scientific designed boots to give them the most advantage possible. Pros nowadys are so protected by refs and rules on the pitch. Pros dont have to put up with the heavy tackles etc Pele & Maradona had to put up with (De Jong excluded)
I would love to see Pele in his prime with all the benefits the players have now. Ref protection, special deigned balls and boots. Pele would be even better now than he was back then. The other players that have been mentioned like Ronaldo and Henry would never be half the player Pele was if they had to play with the equiptment and physical demands he had to.

Really no, what I mean by the game being so much more advanced is teams are more organised, defenders are better, more physical, faster and alot more fitter. Pele was a really fit man, no drinking, smoking etc.. while the majority of the players in his era were excessive drinkers and smokers which made him stand head and shoulders above the rest when it came to fitness. Pele would be shoved off the ball like a kid nowadays and it's a fact.

Ok it's not a fact but it's very likely. The physicality of the game back then was just bad tackles and kicking but nowadays it's big players like Alex, Vidic etc. who would just shrug someone like Pele off the ball, I'm not saying Pele was not a class player but if he played in the Premier League how it is now he would score nowhere near 1000 goals in his career.

I get it, I just don't care. You should change the title to "This is why I love Pele" because a video about one man isn't football.
ahlycotc wrote:Looks like we have a couple of haters in here. I don't give a toss if you like Pele or not, but bashing him for no apparent reason is one thing.
Unless Pele is really an attention whore and demands this kind of stuff.....I wouldn't say anyone who doesn't care is bashing him.....

The point isn't to bash Pele (although I seriously don't care for him, he's history and not the present and, like when I was watching Man Utd vs Watford I'm much more interested in my own players then superstars......if Ronaldo is playing so what? I'm much more excited to be watching and supporting my own teams players). All of that aside...this video is fine there's nothing wrong with honouring Pele.....but he's saying "This is why I love football".....anyone who says this is the best thing about football and it's why they love it doesn't understand football at all.
ahlycotc wrote:

Obviously he does if he's saying "look at this" in the title. It's the exact topic to bring it up.....

Pele has little influence. Even David Beckham has more influence. Pele might be the best footballer ever....he might not be....and don't try and make it a fact that he is.
'orrible bastard wrote:

Why is that exactly? Either way I don't care for him.....and what is this regard about? Am I supposed to wank over him or something? He's history now, I don't really care and have far more regard for current players.

You're stuck in the past. Whatever Pele is there's nothing good to gain from giving a toss about him. I levelled up to the present.
----------------------------
Here's a question for you.........what has Pele done for football? Even more precisely.....what has he done that should make anyone today e.g. an English Championship club supporter, care?
You love football because of Pele (or even because of a commercial about Pele).....er for me that's just wrong.
I love football because....I can follow my local team and be emotionally attached. They play for the fans and the team that I love, and whether we win, lose or draw they're still my team. I get to watch football every week, or even more then that....and being part of the club going down to the stadium to watch your local team is the best part of football for me. Every time Watford or England score I get celebrate with my fellow fans and cheer them on.....there's not many great things like that.
I don't love football because of Pele, I think that's pretty sad for someone to do that.....and you're not even Brazilian or from his time so it's just weird.

Luxz0rz, I see your point with the title of the thread. Although he is free to say, "this is why I love football". It's his personal opinion. He wasn't saying everyone should watch this because they will love football.
I'm neither a Brazil fan nor particularly a Pele fan (just admire his achievements and skill), but I really liked the video. The idea behind it, the suspense. It was just really nice. So I would recommend this video to everyone because it has a nice story and drama to it, whether you are a Brazil fan or a Watford fan. In conclusion, there is nothing wrong with him saying "everyone should look at this".

i dont love Pele. at no point has he ever been my favourite player. i have had one footballing hero and i dont ever see that changing! his name is Steve Bull. he played for Wolves & England during my childhood - he is the single most important player in football history to ME.
but i cant ignore the history books - Pele is the man. not to me but the masses. not to you either Lux, or the majority of football fans. but the majority of football fans have the mental capacity to appreciate what Pele means to our sport and recognize his importance. you dont.
you're fucking weird. and you show a level of inteligence that cant fully comprehend the video. try taking it out of context - Darren Bazeley is 70 years old and his only wish is that he could score one more goal at vicarage road vs luton. he has a couple of half chances, takes a knock but soldiers on. then in injury time the ball breaks to him and he spots the luton keeper off his line and chips him with an audacious effort from 40 yards. two and a half sides of the stadium erupt into delirium. 1 v o watford and Dazza Bazza can die a happy old man.
its about football you muppet! Pele is just a focal point for the commercials intended audience!
substitute Pele, Brazil & Argentina with any player, his favourite football team and their biggest rivals and tug at the heart strings of any football fan in the world.
GET IT NOW? probably fucking not.
remember the carling England World Cup advert? you do realise that you could substitute England for any other nation and swap our flag, celebrities, former players and managers and any other imagery for those of ANY other country and it would still work!
yet you could show that advert to a Brazilian, an Italian, an Egyptian or an American and they would get it. and it would still probably send a shiver down their spine!
in fact lets try it. all you foreigners especially you ahlycotc does this evoke a reaction from you? are you able to take it out of context?
