Bill Foulkes was a Manchester United legend who played for the club between the years of 1951-1970. He was a part of the famous Busby Babes and a survivor of the Munich Air Crash in 1958. He went on to make over 500 appearances for the club.

He played in the centre of defence and despite tough competition is probably the greatest ever defender to have played for the club in our entire history. He started out as a right back but after eventually starting to struggle, would convert to the centre back position which he would make his own and command for a large part of his United career.

After the Munich Air Crash he would take over the captaincy for a while, from club captain Roger Bryne who had died during the crash.

Along with Sir Bobby Charlton, he was the only other Busby Babe who would go on to play for us in the 1968 European Cup Final where we beat Benfica 4-1 to lift the trophy.

He would continue to play for the club for a couple of years after this, but felt he had achieved all that he would achieve and retired in 1970 as a true club legend and as one of the greatest players in the history of the club
