Of course people are going to compare Ronaldo and Messi. They're the 2 best players in the world at the moment by a fucking mile, they play for Madrid and Barca, and they ended up on 53 goals last season. Neutral

People will always try and use statistics to justify things, like in this case that Ronaldo is better than Messi because his goal ratio was slightly better this season.

Both players have so much more than goals to their game so unless Ronaldo had scored about 20 goals more than Messi, then it would mean absolutely nothing.

Yes it suggests that, but that is all it does.

Statistics would suggest that Dennis Bergkamp was an average striker because of his goals record when he in fact was a brilliant striker.

As I said, Malouda is the player of the season based off statistics, it shows how wrong statistics are when you actually watch games and player's performances over the game, not just final statistics.

As Marvin pointed out, a player could do a lot for the team and not score/get assists, or do nothing much for the team but pop up in the right place and get an assist and do nothing all game. Statistics don't tell half the story of a player.
