Hey man, I quit about 6 months ago, I was a smoker for 4-5 years. Just went completely cold turkey. 90% of my mates smoke so it wasn't easy, but it worked. Takes a bit of doing, but its either you do it or you dont, there is no in between. Kept telling myself that and it worked. I do kind of miss the concept more than anything, not going to smoke again though

If you WANT to quit. It can be done. Lots of people fail because they dont want to.

Are there any benefits to smoking? My friends always offer me cigs saying it helps cure stress etc ? True ?

It's purely psychological. Cigarettes have nothing inside of them that gives any kind of stress relief. Purely psychological and a societal construct.

In my mind smoking is both blissful and disgusting. I miss the bliss of it, especially on warm days, when all my mates are having a cig. Summer is coming round it will be hard, but I need my fitness for football season, that's one of the main reasons I quit.

Knowing this why do people start smoking then ? I understand some people start as dumb kids who do it because they think its cool or because of peer pressure, but why do others do it ? Seems really stupid (no offense to any smokers), especially when you know almost everyone regrets it.

I always tried cold turkey and it always failed. I think it's because I think about not smoking so much it gets the better of me.

This way seems better, I don't buy cigs but I'll have one if one crosses my path. That way I'm not constantly thinking "Don't think about cigs" which actually does make me think about them. Also means I'm cutting down massively without really noticing.

Yeah, that makes sense. It isn't easy but it isn't hard either. If you put it in perspective, for most, choosing a fruit over a less healthy food is much harder than deciding not to smoke.

I am one of those dumb kids unfortunately, but most people just start not so much from peer pressure but just the exposure. Deep down, all smokers know its stupid, they either surrender to this fact or just dont care. I didn't care for a long time, and me and all my mates were openly vocal about how idiotic a habit it was. It's quite a peculiar thing, you can't understand the addiction until you\re under it. I used to detest smoking, just as I do again now.

    I'm going for round 3.

Trying a new tactic. I've bought one of those inhalator things. Hoping this will work now. I've also gone 10 days without smoking weed.

One of the instructors on my course is trying the Nicorette inhalator method. He's gone 8 days without a cigarette now. He used to smoke almost 40 a day I think.

I just got the boots one. Same price as nicorette but double the cartridges.

I dunno about them though, they seem to work for like 5 mins. Then I need a fag again.

I smoked for about 17 years and i was smoking sometimes 30 to 40 a day. But because of me being diabetic it was fucking me up and was making me really ill at times and i just had to stop, tried lots of times to stop and eventually just went cold turkey and ive stopped for about 5 years now. But because of the way its was making me feel that made it easier to actually stop, but it can be done if you really need to or you really want to.

When my mate gave up smoking, every time he wanted a fag, he had a cup of tea instead (gave him something to do, kept his hands busy). Bit weird but it worked for him.

Get an inhalator people. Before this week I'd never gone more than a day without a cigarette since I was about 14/15.

I haven't had one since 6:30pm on monday.

Tell me about it, now i hate the smell of the fucking things. And the horrible feelings i was having when smoking was enough, to say enough is enough. And by stopping it also helped my fucking eyesight because i was having lazer treatment on my eyes for 2 and a half years because of my diabetes, and the smoking was stopping the circulations in my body which was also effecting my eyesight.eek

We're in the same boat then, Ryan Laughing Except you're 2 years older than me.

People are usually surprised when I tell them how many I have a day as it probably never goes over 4. Still a dirty habbit though, however I don't have the willpower to quit. Not while I'm still a teen anyway.

Nah I mean I've tried to quit and maybe had 1 a day when trying to quit but that's never lasted more than 3 days. I've always smoked 10-20 a day.

It sounds to me like you're just in the habit of smoking and aren't addicted to nicotine. I'd stop now if I were you. The addiction is a bitch and smoking is really pointless, especially just 4 a day.

I've been smoking here and there but not very much. I can easily go most of the day without cigarettes and I've become less reliant on my inhalator.

I've also gone 22 days without smoking weed. I'm planning to bring this to about 28-35 days to make sure it's all out of my system and then I'm only going to smoke it on the weekends. Once this is done it will be the first time I've been an adult without having drugs in my system Laughing
