Reading some of this thread just to see reasons people started. Was talking to my mates about it today, I think a lot of it depends on their opinions of it, none of us do it/are planning on starting, but one of my mates was telling us how he smoked last night at a party expecting some sort of reaction, we all just gave him a look as if to say "why?". He seemed a bit embarrassed and didn't say any more of it.

My best mate from a different group of friends (hey there, mr popular) smokes ciggies occasionally and sometimes weed especially when he's with his cousin, but whenever someone says anything about it he never mentions in front of me, weird how much of an influence your mates can have on you, particularly as a teen.

Ran out of inhalator cartridges yesterday. I'm on the cold turkey stage again. Have a slight feeling of nicotine deprivation but no where near as bad as going straight from cigarettes to cold turkey.

Today is 31 days without a joint. According to this I dropped below the allowed limit for THC 3 days ago but I'm going to go to 5 weeks anyway because a mate said he'll hook up some peng for the weekend.

    You smoke weed ?

Quitting smoking has to one of the hardest things in life.

It's pretty pathetic that you actually started smoking but feel extremely proud if you ever do quit. People really don't understand how big an achievement quitting smoking is for a regular smoker.

Yes. Smoking weed is what got me started smoking cigarettes. I was about 14 and me and some mates had planned to get lean one day (I'd already done it a few times at this point) but we couldn't get any and were pretty pissed at this, then a mate said smoke a cigarette instead, the head rush is fun. I believed him and eventually got hooked smoking cigarettes.

    I started smoking weed/cigarettes about 14, luckily I stopped at about 16/17.

I was never properly hooked though, just done it with mates.. glad I didn't get addicted.

I'll smoke weed every now and then. However I probably wouldn't ever do it on my own, just with mates for a laugh. Also have no desire to smoke cigarettes in any setting. Few of my mates do it socially and I think one of them has now started all the time.

That's exaclty what I'm like. Having it with with mates is a laugh and you can have a good time but taking it on your own is a little sad and a little unsafe to be honest.

People will have a beer after work and stuff on their own. There's nothing wrong with having a joint on your own. It's not like you'll put a lot in if it's just for yourself, just a sprinkle to relax a bit.

Weed is not like coke or mdma or whatever. It's perfectly fine to do on your own. It's government propaganda that's made you think it isn't.

    Smoking weed with friends- Ok.
    Smoking weed alone- Bad.
    think

Ah I understand, by smoking weed with friends the content of the joint somehow changes and becomes less harmful to the human body.

    Makes prefect sense.

No big deal for me at all though, I used to smoke weed quite often, mostly in company but it can be enjoyable alone as well. Stopped using it though.

I know he's not married, but he's engaged and calls her his missus.

A lot of people use the term missus without being married.

Cannabis has never been the direct cause of the death of someone, cigarettes have.

Saying that, there's nothing wrong with a cigarette every now and then.

I smoke weed every day. I'm an asthmatic and my breathing has improved since giving up cigarettes. I obviously have the tiniest bit in my joints though. I am only paranoid when high. I am a fully functioning human when sober.

Sad and unsafe? Why sit at home and smoke a cigarette which is destroying your lungs with no effect when you can smoke a joint which will give you a decent buzz out of it? I mainly smoke it as a sociable drug but I'm perfectly safe and happy when smoking it alone too.

I'm not addicted too. I could stop right now.

It's a bit like drinking alone isn't it? If someone told me they drank 4 cans with their mates on a pre-lash then went out and had 5 WKD in a nightclub every week I wouldn't think much of it, but if someone told me they often sit in alone and do that while listening to music/wanking/watching TV I'd think they have a fairly serious problem.
