true - if the British never got involved they would be like the most peaceful people on earth - like those crazy asian peaceful meditation guys - they'd all be like that.
I also blame television.

I would not bet on India overtaking us, especially while they continue on with the caste system. Especially if they go to war with Pakistan, which will probably happen at some point.
Egypt, for God's sake. They had their time as a superpower and it was 2000 years ago. Unless there is a complete overhaul in how that country is ran, there is no super power coming from there. Islamic extremists running free in the country, no government, currently no democracy.....no open market. There are dozens of countries closer to becoming a power before Egypt. Egypt has economic, civil liberties, political liberties, and ideological problems to look at before they ever think about doing anything. They are arguably nto even the power of Africa....if S. Africa could figure it out.
Another problem for Egypt is if they ever get too bold, they have the oil rich Saudis so close who will want to maintain their status as the strongest nation in the particular region.
Wishful thinking from you.
I'm pretty happy with the progress Egypt has made so far and if it continues in the right direction, things look good for the country. There was a 41% voter turnout yesterday for the constitution changes referendum and it was approved by a 77% majority.
Islamic extremism will die (it didn't exist heavily in Egypt anyways) under freedom. The biggest reason extremism existed in the first part is because the former regime would unfairly arrest and torture people who were religious. You could be arrested/followed for simply having a beard or regularly go to the mosque for the daily prayers. And, what economic liberties are you mentioning?
Saudi Arabia? Don't be silly. The Saudis won't and can't do shit. They have their own problems to worry about anyways. There is a revolution trying to start up there.
The saudis have a bigger army than you, no democracy to deal with (they dont care what the people say) and they have more money than Egypt and vast vat vast deposits of oil, while Egypt has none.
If there is going ot be a power out of that region, it is going to likely be the Saudis. Not Iran because they are far too backward in their policies and basically need to all die painful deaths.
To a later post: If India was still 100% peaceful, they would have been overran by the dirty Pakistanis by now. If they didn't have nukes, they would all be dead.
There is a long way to go before anybody is becoming a super power. Even China has a way to before they are a full fledged super power, and they are the closest to us.

Well actually if France/Portugal and later Britain didn't get involved, India would probably have gone through another two centuries of warring and the population would all be muslim today.El_indian wrote:true - if the British never got involved they would be like the most peaceful people on earth - like those crazy asian peaceful meditation guys - they'd all be like that.

I blame television.
India generally is (and should be) grateful for what Britain brought to India.
Sure...there we were using you but only to a certain extent....and we left you with a legacy that has helped India grow into what is seemingly a future superpower.
Trains (which is the most obvious thing but only one of many) protection from the surrounding people who caused much more harm than us.......and protected you from yourselves!!!! i.e. Muslims vs Hindus etc...most people didn't even see an English person at all, many regions were still ruled by Indians.
India is a mess, but then again so has every emerging country in history been. Especially for a country of India's size....to grow there needs to be sacrifices.

Considering the only reason the muslim sultanates couldn't advance further was because the remaining hindu states were already eaten by the British.... Then the history between the Mughals and the British is one everyone should be well acquainted with.SBSP wrote:What would make you say that?polska. wrote:Well actually if France/Portugal and later Britain didn't get involved, India would probably have gone through another two centuries of warring and the population would all be muslim today.El_indian wrote:true - if the British never got involved they would be like the most peaceful people on earth - like those crazy asian peaceful meditation guys - they'd all be like that.

Re: World War 3
you have look at what we left them we gave them infulstructure like a lot of nations eg Singapore Australia and argubly United States. im under no illisions im pretty sure there was a bad side to the old empire but we left a lot of countries with infulsrtucture so they could grow.
