I hope Barcelona come up against Man United or Chelsea in the final, then the 90'000 crowd at Wembley whistle and boo them everytime they get the ball and make the referee go the English side's way, then they know how it feels.

Hopefully United make the semis and have barca so they have to prioritise over the league

Not really, the league's the main priority this season- as it always is.EdinsonCavani wrote:Hopefully United make the semis and have barca so they have to prioritise over the league
(Disregarding how good we were back then...) last time we got Barca in the CL semi finals, we went onto win the double.

This. Stupid question. So you would rather go out in Round two, then Quarter Finals.

Looking back on the 2007 season I was a lot more pleased at getting to the final than last season when we got knocked out in the groups.

Depends. What's better: (a) winning your domestic league and domestic cup while going out in the R16 or (b) runner up in league and quarterfinal exit in champions league?
I guess it's only better if you win hardware at home.

Clearly A, because that way you've won a trophy, which is a better than finishing the season with nothing.menalawyerguy wrote:Depends. What's better: (a) winning your domestic league and domestic cup while going out in the R16 or (b) runner up in league and quarterfinal exit in champions league?

I agree. So last year is a good example of it being better for a team if they had gone out earlier. Man Utd may have won the league had it not been for the knock Rooney took against Bayern Munich. In fact, they might even have been in better shape this year. That seems to be the point at which Rooney lost his form.

You could also win both. That's where hindsight come in though. The longer you are in a competition the more chance you have of winning it. Any way of trying to justify going out early as being good is pretty defeatist IMO.menalawyerguy wrote:Depends. There is definitely nothing good about going out of a competition early but as people said; it can be a blessing in disguise.

It is just a philosophical question though, so we can inject hindsight. Nobody would argue that Manchester United had a better season than Chelsea last year. Without the benefit of hindsight, the answer is obviously no, it's not better.

Ancelotti might have done, because he's already said they won't win the league.EdinsonCavani wrote:Ferguson and Ancelotti both said the champions league is the priority this seasonDanny wrote:Not really, the league's the main priority this season- as it always is.EdinsonCavani wrote:Hopefully United make the semis and have barca so they have to prioritise over the league

United's main priority is always winning the title.

He didn't say it's the priority, he said it's a priority. And he never said it's a bigger priority than the league.

tbh Look at it this way
Italy and France were the laughing stock of the world cup for not even advancing from the group stage. I think they would not be criticised that much if they made it to the quarters or the semis. so yes I think it is better to go out in the latter stages

Yep, with Arsenal being knocked out of the Champions League at quite an early stage and if United progress i could see it being very beneficial. Arsenal will have less games and more time to rest players and the league will now be their main priority, while United could still be recovering from midweek Champions League games ahead of vital league games.

Like how Barcelona were treated at Stamford Bridge or at the Emirates?

It was a pointless thing to say Kuled because if France go out early in the world cup they are not still fighting for a league title or domestic cup.
If Man United get far in the Champions League thats 4-5 more games they will need to play their strongest side in, in those games there will always be at least one injury, which could hurt them in the league games.
