The price for Shaw is far too high.

Think so? I haven't actually paid attention to Shaw myself this year so I can't say how good he really is. £27m today isn't as much as it was even just 3-4 years ago. The new TV money from BT entering the game has been silly.

71% increase, a minimum extra of £14m per year for every team.
If Shaw is actually as good as people say, 27m isn't too bad considering you'll get many years out of him.

Neither have I to be honest, but £27m for any 18 year old who has never even played in the Europa League is a total farce. If it's a sign that the Glazers will pay whatever to sign who the manager wants then great, but I fear it's down to extremely poor scouting that the main left back we're interested in is one everyone already knows about. Smacks of an Edward Woodward vanity signing.
We'll get him for about 5 years, anything after that we'll have to pay him a signing on bonus to renew his contract, which will reflect any transfer fee he might be worth then, in addition to his basic. There are no bargains when you're signing players everyone knows about.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
It's a shame that the player of 2011 never stuck around due to injuries, but he is probably the most useless and reckless player in the league now. I'd even prefer Tiote to him.Scott_LFC wrote:Looks like Lucas is leaving us. A good sign.

I reckon there's an 90% chance Micah Richards will leave City in the summer, not sure where to though.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
£27m for an 18 year old full back.
Absurd money, would rather we held out until after the World Cup, the exposure for the club would be nice. Would rather sell Shaw than Lallana as well. We could get a new left back and striker for £27m comfortably, however the chances of replacing Lallana and getting a new striker for a lot less money (probably £15m-ish) would be a lot slimmer.

Don't you need him for your reduced Champions League squad?

Starting to warm to the idea of signing Lallana, now. Of course, that means it won't happen.
What are your genuine opinions on him?

Why do you think he'll flop? He might flop, but he might also become their Aguero.

Possibly, but he is unhappy with the lack of appearances he's been getting. His post match reactions seem like he's pretty set to leave, thanking everyone for his time at City etc..
Contract runs out next summer so that kind of weakens the clubs position a bit.

He's only had one season where he's been playing at the absolute top level, so it's possible. I doubt it though, he doesn't give off the flop vibe to me.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
I don't know what it is, but I've never really bought into the hype of Costa. I was pretty excited when we were linked to him, but having seen a bunch of games he's played in this season, he doesn't actually seem that technically gifted or skillful. His general movement seems rather stiff, instead of fluid. He doesn't look that fast either. People have said that he'll be like Drogba, but Drogba had a habit of producing magical moments. I've not seen that from Costa. It's possible that I've just been watching all the wrong games, but that's my general feeling. I don't think he'll take the League by storm or anything. Certainly don't see him outscoring Suarez, Sturridge, Aguero, RVP, etc (providing there's no long term injuries).
Honestly see him being a 15 PL goals a season striker.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
I know what you mean, Scott. It's hard to quantify in words, but there's just something less than impressive about Costa. I watched him against Real Madrid early in the season and was extremely impressed, but since then there's something extremely scrappy and unrefined about him.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
I don't think there are many better strikers available for £32m anyway.
Maybe at a push Benzema might be there for a price similar. But then who else is there? Balotelli, Jackson Martinez? Could take a punt on Benteke or Bony, but they might even cost more.
I think it's hard for him to be a flop unless he does disastrously badly. Even 15 goals wouldn't be the end of the world and might be enough to get them a title.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
He isn't black striker on UT quick, but he is fast enough. He won't be getting 25-30 goals in the PL, that's for sure. Reminds of Negredo, not it play style but in the fact he got 25 goals in La Liga last season but has been * in the PL.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
Negredo was great for the first half of the season. In the second half he was still getting chances but he just bottled most of them because he had no confidence. That of course meant that he stopped getting games too.

With that said, I think Chelsea should just use Lukaku. Obviously must be some issue with him personally if they don't.

The 20 y/o Schalke left back would be cheaper for Man Utd and he's better than Shaw.

Re: Summer Transfers 2014
Negredo never struck me as bring as good as Costa has been this season. Michu got 18 last season after getting 16 in La Liga the year before. I can see Costa at least matching that.

So Sagna is going to Man City and Arsenal are looking to sign Aurier to replace him.
