After watching that, I have to say, Lallana does seem quite a big bit better than I was expecting. So ambidextrous too.

Will be interesting to see what Rodgers can do with him.

One clip in and Stevie G is messing up defensively, what a shocker.

He's a decent player, but we paid 25m for a player who might not be any better than what we already have.  Either prices are insane, or we've messed up again.

It's also sickening to see that such a middle-class looking lad has a nasty tattoo all over his rib cage.

Yeah, but our first team was title challenge-worthy. It's depth we need. Having Coutinho, Sterling and Lallana to pick from is a big jump from having Coutinho, Sterling and Moses to pick from.

Our first team was good enough to challenge last season.  We're going to lose Suarez, our best player since Michael Owen, and the teams around and below us are all going to improve.  Besides Sanchez, have any of the players stood out as definitely capable of filling Suarez's agile boots?  And with Sanchez said to prefer a move to Arsenal, who will realistically come?

Are those 11 games meant to be some sort of barometer of what your form will be like without Suarez?

Yeah, I'm not sure about that either.  Those fixtures were, from memory, quite easy fixtures, none of them in particularly high-pressure situations, and you have to wonder whether Brendan Rodgers actually used the suspensions to his advantage to make each individual raise his performance.

The ones on the back end of the 2012/13 season, fair enough, but 5 of those 11 games include the first 5 games of the 2013/14 season.

We won our first game of the season, which we hadn't done since something stupid like, 2007 or 2008, against Stoke.

We won our second game of the season, a tricky away trip to Aston Villa, who were on a high after smashing Arsenal 3-1.

We won our third game of the season, a high-pressure game at home against Man United.

(Won our first 3 games of the season, something we hadn't done during my time of being a Liverpool fan)

    We drew against Swansea.

And then lost against Southampton, a game in which we played 4 centre-backs. A poor game, tactically, by Rodgers.

You say Rodgers perhaps used the suspension to his advantage, to make each individual raise his performance. I'm sure the same would happen again, if we were to sell Suarez.

I genuinely think we have struck gold with Rodgers. And I think he'll continue to prove it. The transformation we've already seen in just 2 seasons is something no-one could have predicted.

Mignolet saved us in those first two games with two of the GOAT saves from a Liverpool keeper.  Besides, there's a big difference between using that motivation for 4/5 matches and using that for the 50 or so matches we'll play next season.  You can get a backs-to-the-wall mentality when down to 10 men and play superbly for 30 minutes, but you'd still rather have 10 men in the long run.

Rodgers had a great second season, but we'll see this season whether he benefited from having a number of factors fall perfectly into place (Suarez and Sturridge both scoring 20+ each, Sterling's development, early exits from the domestic cups + no European football) or if he really is a good manager.  There's no doubt he's a good man-manager and decent tactically, but having to rotate is a challenge he hasn't, to my knowledge, had to encounter in his career.

Suarez and Sturridge scoring 20+, Sterling's development, etc is testament to Rodgers. It can't just be a coincidence. Suarez couldn't hit a barn door during his first year and a half here. Yet, the 2 seasons under Rodgers, he turned into the best striker in the League.

Of course, you could be right and we'll finish outside the CL places next season, but to simply write us off just because we've sold Suarez is silly. I have faith that Rodgers is taking us in the right direction. Just look at how he got us playing, and no, it wasn't because of Suarez. It was the whole team (in attack).

Suarez will be pumped full with PEDs as per his contract, he won't need to bite or racially abuse anyone to win.

What would your line up be if we were to acquire Sanchez?

I am struggling to settle on one. The purchase of Lallana has added to the headache, also.

    Maybe this:

    Sterling - Sturridge - Sanchez
    Coutinho - Lallana
    Henderson

Probably too attacking. Gerrard can gfto too, I hope Can somehow ends up being so beastly that he replaces Gerrard Rolling Eyes

Do you mean my preferred lineup, or what is the best option based on the systems Rodgers has used & the players we are likely to sign?

    The former:

    Mignolet
    Glen Johnson-Agger/new CB-Sakho-Enrique
    Can
    Coutinho-Allen
    Sterling
    Studge-Sanchez

It wouldn't be rigid as Sanchez/Sterling/Coutinho are all relatively adept both centrally and out wide.

    The latter:

    Mignolet
    Flanagan-Caulker-Skrtel-Bertrand
    Gerrard
    Henderson-Allen
    Coutinho
    Studge-Sanchez

Mine, based on who we've signed so far, and the hypothetical inclusion of Sanchez.

    Sterling - Sturridge - Sanchez
    Lallana - Henderson
    Can
    Enrique - Sakho - Skrtel - Johnson
    Mignolet

Subs: Lambert, Borini, Coutinho, Allen, Gerrard, Agger, Flanagan.

I don't care that I've never seen Can play properly. I just can't be doing with Gerrard anymore. Cba.

It's too early to say, anyway.  We could end up with Caulker and Bertrand or we could end up with Moreno and Lovren, it's difficult to predict.

I must say that I am slightly encouraged by the hope that we are spending a fair bit of money on players that might just push SGYNWA out of the team, even if only for a few matches. Very Happy If we somehow make it out of our CL group, there's no way we should let that bottling crock "lead" us out again.  If we're still intent on using a tortoise-speed long-range passer in defensive midfield, we're better off bringing back Alonso.

I didn't support Liverpool before you signed Suarez though. I had plenty of reasons to dislike your team under Hodgson and Dalglish, but Suarez is basically the only remaining one.

    Henderson-------------Coutinho
    Can

    ------------------Gerrard-----------
    Flahn - Sakho ---------------- Johnson

    Mignolet

Hoping to see Brodgers deploy Steve in a "False half No.6" position that he's spoken about.
