Fuck me, we've made a 25m euro bid for Diego Costa.

Jamarcus Latarian describes him as "a decent footballer, but he has been infected and he has resulted to using dirty tactics to unsettle his opponents. From spitting on Sergio Ramos to elbowing Pepe, Diego Costa surely harbours Carraghitis."

Also a rumour that Skretel is to Napoli.

This sounds pretty good, like-for-like replacements with slight character upgrades.
Sell limited "put your head on the line there, lad" thug in Skrtel, sign limited "get stuck in there, lad" brute in Papadopoulus.
Sell a nasty lunatic in Suarez, sign a morally ambiguous man in Costa.

Fortunately, it's only Stage I (tendency to lash out, etc.) I think, so no need to panic.Scott M wrote:Moriarty wrote:Jamarcus Latarian describes him as "a decent footballer, but he has been infected and he has resulted to using dirty tactics to unsettle his opponents. Ayre has said Suarez is staying. Said about fans stopping him in the street saying to please hold onto Suarez, etc and said that's what Liverpool will do. And that he's not going to go to Arsenal.

I don't see how Liverpool can afford to buy Costa for 25m and then not sell Suarez, seems pretty strange.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I can't see him staying. We'd have Borini, Suarez, Aspas, DStudge, and Costa as our forwards. That doesn't seem realistic.
Diego Costa seems like the kind of player who is being signed to appease the fans because he'll bring the same energy, theatrics, and drive that Suarez did.

We're not that broke. Not sure what the outlay has been so far, but it can't be much over 20.Theo Filippo wrote:I don't see how Liverpool can afford to buy Costa for 25m and then not sell Suarez, seems pretty strange.

Steven Gerrard also said that he hopes we pull off 2 marquee signings and hold onto Suarez. This could be marquee signing number 1.
Theo, we're not broke or anything lol. We do have money to spend. That's always been the case.

It doesn't matter if you're broke, I just can't see Liverpool spending 25m on a player similar to Suarez while also rejecting 40-50 million bids for Suarez.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
I'm loving the type of players Rodgers seems to be targeting this summer. Players with a certain mentality, a bit of fire. Mignolet looks really commanding and confident, as does Toure. Aspas has that bit of fire to his personality, apparently, according to how he was in Spain. And now Diego .. who's apparently more of a nuisance than Suarez. Imagine Suarez, Diego and Aspas up front . Sturridge also has the same kind of winner's mentality. Coutinho and Alberto aren't really the same, but they're just going to be our bits of magic, imo. The ones who feed the aforementioned strikers.
Rodgers could be onto something here, imo. A team full of players who really, REALLY want to win, along with them actually being good footballers too, could make a bit difference.
Papadopoulos is another target of ours, with the same kind of mentality.
It's starting to become clear why we averted our interest in Eriksen.

I can.
Sturridge
Diego - Coutinho - Suarez
Aspas, Alberto, Sterling, etc on the bench. Looks pretty good to me.

Can't see it personally and while that team looks good on paper it's got 2 players out wide who are actually better where Sturridge is. I think Liverpool are just looking to replace Suarez before they sell him.

He seems more suited to the centre than Sturridge, since he's apparently a 6'2 tank with average pace.

It'll be fluid and inter-changing. Not fixed positions.

Coutinho would probably be thrown out wide again to accommodate for Suarez.Scott M wrote:Theo Filippo wrote:It doesn't matter if you're broke, I just can't see Liverpool spending 25m on a player similar to Suarez while also rejecting 40-50 million bids for Suarez.

I agree about Eriksen, the last thing we want is a quiet personality. Henderson, Downing, etc.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has told Sky Sports News he has no doubt Luis Suarez will stay at the club this summer.
Arsenal have failed with two bids to make Suarez their record signing, and the striker is back training with his team-mates ahead of the new Premier League season.
And as Sky Sports News' 92Live helicopter landed in Liverpool on Thursday evening, Ayre joined Jim White pitchside at Anfield to make it clear Suarez is going nowhere.
"We've got Luis Suarez in our squad, he'll have trained today and he's working hard," said Ayre, who added there have been no offers from abroad for the player.
"Despite what people think we've not had an intention of selling Luis, we've never said we want to sell Luis.
"He continues to work hard and train hard for Liverpool. That will continue and I'll expect him to be here at the start of the season."
Ayre confirmed Arsenal's two bids but said: "It's not something we're interested in and, as our fans would expect, we rejected both. The player is not available for sale - that's where we are and that's where we'll stay
"I wish I had £1 for everyone that's stopped me in the street saying 'make sure Luis stays'. That's what we're doing."
"He continues to work hard and train hard for Liverpool. That will continue and I'll expect him to be here at the start of the season."
Ian Ayre
Suarez was given time off after playing for Uruguay in the Confederations Cup but joined up with Brendan Rodgers' squad in Melbourne, where 95,000 supporters watched Liverpool beat Melbourne Victory.
Ayre said: "I don't think his demeanour's changed - he's been a professional throughout. It's just business as usual.
"Luis was on the back end of tour with us. He joined us in Melbourne, and seeing the fantastic support and adulation, nobody will know more than Luis how much he's loved by this football club.
"I'm sure he's going to stay - that's always been our ambtion and that's what we expect to achieve."

Doesn't mean anything unfortunately, the Arsenal hierarchy gave big words about this summer and we haven't done anything yet.

You've bidded £40m+ for Suarez.
Higuain and Jovetic chose to go to better teams, but you were fully in for them.
Arsenal are living up to what they said, just not pulling it off, imo. They're finding it harder than they thought.

How so? He's still here, we've rejected Arsenal's bids out of hand, etc.
