Going to be really good being able to go to games, but you have to question the CONMEBOL. Their most important tournament 100yr anniversary, and it's not hosted in South America. Also in a country that hasn't taken the competition seriously when they have been invited. $$$$
Mexico will have overwhelming home support in every game

4th place 95 brah don't hate.
Plus 16' is an open year if I'm counting correctly, so the full team will be available.

I'm sure the US will field their full team. It would be embarrassing if they didn't use a full team as hosts. The decision is purely profit based though. I'm exited about it too. Will be able to watch high quality stuff without traveling more than a few miles. Don't think too many South Americans are happy about this decision though.
Since it's an important year for the competition, it should be hosted somewhere in South America. Uruguay (Most Copa America wins) would be good. Should have done it in the U.S the next time.

Re: Copa America 2016: USA!
Now the magic question is how are they going to choose the 6 CONCACAF teams for this? The USA as host and Mexico seems obvious but what about the other four? Since Canada automatically makes the Gold Cup that would be a nice gesture to make but even if you do that you still need three more teams.

Why is it six by the way?

I do not but I will take a guess on a few, most likely Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York City

10+ 6 = 16, then you have 4 groups of 4 which is perfect for a cup like this,

New York would be ideal, assuming I still inhabit the East Coast in 4 years.Weather130 wrote:Glen Damon wrote:Do you know in which cities matches will be played?

Dallas, Arizona, and Houston. In addition to the ones Weather mentioned.

I see how they will pick teams here, USA, Mexico and the next four top finishers in the 2013 Gold Cup.

I thought the United States took it somewhat seriously the last time they were involved. It's just that the opposing teams were pretty fucking good.

One other point was mentioned in this article that was almost completely forgotten is that Mexico and Japan have been named as guests for the 2015 tournament.

Re: Copa America 2016: USA!
Took a weaker side in 07, because it started like two weeks after the end of the Gold Cup that year. Didn't Mexico also take a "weaker" side than the one that played at Gold Cup, considering that was the Confederations Cup determiner?
Anyways, I'm definitely excited about it. Jut hope to get some games in DC. Surely if they went with all NFL stadia, it would be the highest attended football tournament outside the WC?

The Euro's are expanding, they might break/hold that record come 2016.

Only difference is that Mexico did pretty well, and got third place.Scuba Steve wrote:Took a weaker side in 07, because it started like two weeks after the end of the Gold Cup that year. Re: Copa America 2016: USA!
Oh yeah I know that. I'm was just noting that not even you guys took your strongest team. So we weren't making a mockery of the tournament, it's just that your weaker side was much better than ours. Not a surprise either, considering what happened two years later.
And yeah, the '11 Copa averaged 34k a match. Euros this year had only 46k. A Copa here in the States would likely be close to 60k a match.

Re: Copa America 2016: USA!
This tournament should be good but if somehow we ended up with a final involving 2 CONCACAF teams something would not feel right. I doubt this would happen but then the proper South American feel would be gone.

This is badass.
Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Leo Messi coming to America.
Hopefully Brazil or Tina play near me.

Sounds like COMNEBOL might have jumped the gun a bit with this announcement. Apparently we haven't agreed to it yet (though we should).
