Underdogs always have their moments. You wouldn't come close to an upset in a cricket game though, or rugby.

Well the sheer volume of people means that you can find people to play different sports and do well as there is a much larger potential talent pool to draw from.

It's the same reason that the US, Russia and China dominate the medals table.
