Southampton to £7m bid for Hooper if – or when – place in Premiership is sealed

    Ronnie Cully
    Senior Sports Writer
SOUTHAMPTON have resurrected their unsolicited interest in Celtic striker Gary Hooper – with reports a £7million offer will arrive at Parkhead as soon as the club book their promotion to the Premiership.

Hoops assistant boss Johan Mjallby admits that, if the south coast club – who had a £5m bid knocked back in January – do return dangling this kind of money, it will leave the Celtic board with a huge decision to make.

I'm not asking you to take it as gospel Jela, stop being on edge about everything I post.

May or may not happen, there was speculation they were coming back in for him and I seen it on Twitter so I posted it.

I would take 7 million as long as we replace him, I don't know if he's the man to take us forward anymore.

So depending on who leaves City in the summer, I think we may go out for a winger, a striker and a centre back.

You will sell Nigel de Jong and replace him with Javi Garcia/Martinez.

I doubt City will spend as much this season. They don't need to be spending that much next season (unless they let Balotteli and others go).

Yeah, just a couple of ins and outs really. Think just keeping this squad stable should be the main goal for now.

I think the only position that definitely needs improving without selling a player in that position first is centre back. The cover for Kompany and Lescott isn't good enough. Maybe also a decent wide player to give another dimension.

Tevez should leave. John Guidetti will come back from loan and probably get a fair few games though. Whether that is enough to cover his loss remains to be seen.

Well, I'm assuming he still wants to leave and the only reason he's missed his chance in the last two windows is because no one would offer enough.

I'm happy for him to stay if he wants to though.

Chelsea apparently close to agreeing a 5-year deal with Marko Marin.

Not seen too much of him but for the rumoured £8m it seems like a bargain.

Sky(Deutschland) already reporting that he has had a medical.

Hooper pledges future to Celtic despite continued interest from Southampton

Gary Hooper is happy to stay at Celtic and fulfil his Champions League ambitions.
Speculation over a move to Southampton resurfaced after Hooper's former Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins led Saints to the Barclays Premier League.
Celtic rebuffed Southampton's interest in January and Hooper is content to remain at Parkhead this summer.

Hooper scored on his Celtic debut in a 2-1 Champions League qualifying win over Braga last season but the Portuguese side had won 3-0 in the first leg.
So the 24-year-old is eager to get a chance in the group stages by helping Celtic emerge through two qualifiers in the champions route in July and August.
Speaking about the Southampton speculation, Hooper said in the Evening Times: 'There are always rumours about that.
'But I have two years left on my contract, I am scoring goals and I am loving my football.
'There is a big chance for us to play Champions League football next season and that has been a personal ambition of mine for a long time.
'I loved playing in the Europa League this season and I think the game away to Udinese is one of the highlights of my career. I would love the chance to sample the Champions League now.'
The Englishman, who scored his 24th goal of the season in Celtic's 3-0 win over Rangers, added: 'I am happy playing for Celtic and yesterday just underlined that.
'The crowd, the atmosphere, the feeling when you score at Celtic Park - I think it is amazing.'
Hooper backed manager Neil Lennon's riposte to critics who say they fall down on the big occasion.
'A lot of people have said we can't handle big games, but I think we dominated the game and kept the ball and I don't think Rangers had many chances at all,' Hooper said.
Meanwhile, Charlie Mulgrew enjoyed a night to remember after being named Celtic's player of the year after heading the opening goal against Rangers.
The defender, who has scored eight goals this season, also won the players' player of the year prize at the club's annual awards night.
Winger James Forrest collected the young player award and Dylan McGeouch won the goal of the season trophy for his solo effort on his debut against St Mirren at Parkhead.
