I remember watching him lob it over the Chelsea GK in the FA Cup quarter-final (or was it a semi-final?) I was at my school prom at the time and watched it on the TV in the bar. Had a Chelsea supporting mate with me as well, so it was fantastic.

Agreed. Us English have bailed them out so many times, yet they have the cheek to claim they want to be independent.Sean wrote:Eternal Witcher wrote:Bet he was Irish.

Just sat here thinking about it now. The last few years as a Liverpool fan. The Benitez era. We got to the point where we were one of the most feared football clubs in Europe. Stormed the Champions League on a couple of occasions, with the hardest run to the final both times. Smashed the Premier League in 2008/9, only to narrowly lose out to the best Man United team in years who have many dodgy referee decisions along the way. We had players like Torres, Alonso, Gerrard in his prime, Mascherano, Reira, Arbeloa, etc.
Somehow I can't ever see us hitting those heights again with Dalglish. I'm not sure why. I feel like, if we ever got into the Champions League again with Kenny, we'd be knocked out again in the qualifiers or the group stages.
Benitez is in our hearts, but we can't take 'the grass is greener on the other side' view and wish for him to be back. However juicy it is, imagining him with FSG's transfer budget. He did fuck things up for us at times and did some really baffling things. It's almost as if we're only remembering the good times.

I feel the same way. I'm bracing myself for 4-5 years without Champions League football, in all honesty.Scott wrote:Just sat here thinking about it now. The last few years as a Liverpool fan. The story is actually hilarious.
I've told it before, but I'll tell it again.
He was a Liverpool fan all his life until we got to year 9. Then his 'grandfather died' and apparently told him to support Chelsea. He literally turned up to school in a Chelsea kit with Vernon on the back. It was like ...... oh my god.
Ever since then, we've had a big rivalry.

Can't really do much worse with FSG's money than Dalglish in fairness. So the grass is greener.

Back in the 1960's? I'm taking a guess here.

How long has Aquilani got left on his contract ?
Lucas having 0 goals and assists is a bit of a surprise tbh. Not that its his main job to do it but I'm guessing he isn't allowed to go forward much ?
Who would you rather have Mascherano or Lucas?

But depends as well, if you would of asked me when masch left then I would of said masch but at this point in time I see Lucas being better for us in the larger picture.
If you get what I'm saying.

Lucas' passing makes an absolute mockery of Mascherano as well.

It is wrong to choose a player solely because of the team he plays for.
I though you were smarter than that

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Liverpool folklore features a story about Bill Shankly putting a weedy teenager on a steak diet to bulk him up after discovering that he was two stones underweight. A few months later, the youngster approached his manager asking to take the following Saturday off. The reason? He was having to get married as his girlfriend was pregnant. Quick as a flash, Shankly beckoned over Bob Paisley, Reuben Bennett and Joe Fagan and told them: “You know what we’ve done with all that steak? We’ve created a monster.”

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
Are you guys fucking crazy? 3 years ago Mascherano was the best defensive midfielder in Europe and Lucas was a son of a bitch disgracing Liverpool by even appearing in the shirt, and a man who deserved to be crucified. Now suddenly Lucas is superior to him? Well that's a bloody massive change, it just so happens that one of them just so happens to have split, and the other one stayed.

Mascherano is amazing, he's a brilliant player. He is awesome at CB, RB, and in midfield. His passing has come on tenfold since leaving. Which is no suprise tbf.
