Not really, not when people are saying the likes of Gerrard who never gets in the team, I was just pointing out that Lampard is the best leader but he doesnt get on enough.

Why have so many people voted for Gerrard when he's not even gonna start most games?
But Barry and Parker will occupy the 2 deep roles I imagine, which Gerrard can't play anyway.
Then the 1 role behind the striker... There is Wilshere, Young, Rooney, Gerrard.
If the 3rd midfielder doesn't play behind the striker, but plays deeper... then there is Wilshere,Lampard and Gerrard contesting it. Both of which Gerrard should be behind.
There is no room to guarentee him a start every game so he shouldn't be considered for captaincy.

I'd go with Lampard but he's not even guaranteed a place in the squad, so I picked Hart instead.

Gerrard deserves to start over Wilshere(Who is injured and hasn't played for donkeys), Lampard, Barry(We only need one holding midfielder).Britfag wrote:Jord wrote:If he gets his form back then he could may well start. He's still a lot better than some other options such as Milner.

This like I said depends on if he gets decent form back.

On what grounds does he deserve to start over Wilshere?

No, England need 2 holding midfielders. We are a poor team compared to the likes of France, Germany, Spain etc. Wilshere is a better player simply because he is more mobile and can keep the ball much easier than Gerrard. Lampard is proving for Chelsea that he still has it as well, Lampard offers much more for England than Gerrard. Always has.

Wilshere WOULD start over Gerrard for me, when he's fit. That isn't the case at the moment. The arguments is who would be the best captain for England and that for me is Gerrard. It's an opinion and that's why I added a poll.

I still dont think he's good enough to be a constant in the team

Gerrard for me. Should've been when Terry was first stripped of it.
Although, being captain means you have to play pretty much every England game, so in that sense. I hope it's none of our players.

You said Lampard should be captain, which means he would be a regular starter?

Yes, can't lead your team to the EURO if you're being alleged of racism, even though he wasn't proven guilty yet, the evidence speaks for itself.Sean wrote:Does everyone think Terry should have been stripped?

If it hadn't been for the Euros I doubt he would have been stripped the way he was. Ideally the trial should have been completed long before the Euros. However, given the situation I do think it was right to remove him from the captaincy of England. I personally would have done so earlier to be perfectly honest, as I think the controversy surrounding the trial should have been enough to promote a temporary captain until the situation was sorted properply.
I don't think he deserves to be banned from the team or stripped of the Chelsea captaincy though.

Jagielka/Lescott are better than Terry, he shouldn't even be in the team.

He should have given it up himself until the outcome of trial.
But we all knew that weren't gonna happen after last time so it was right the FA took it off him.

Stripping Terry gives me the impression that he's guilty.

So just because someone has accused him of something, he can't be allowed to lead out his country? Even if the accusation is false?

Rooney is such an obvious choice.
I don't know why anyone thinks Joe Hart would make a better captain.
Notice the thread title says "Who SHOULD be the next England Captain".
Not who do you want to be.

I think a captain should be a model professional who doesn't get involved in scandals once a year

Here's a crazy idea, but maybe people have different opinions on who SHOULD be the next England captain.
