First goal: Two United attackers in threatening positions, Koscielny, Mertesacker and Song all there to deal with it. Beats them all, becomes Vermaelen's job to deal with it. Should have never happened.

Second goal: Kind of his fault. He stood his ground initially and lined himself behind Arshavin in case Valencia got past. Should have stuck with him, instead got attracted to the ball and left Arshavin trying to mark Valencia in the box. In a way, it is his fault, although Koscielny, Song and Arshavin were all guilty of absolutely atrocious defending.

No, he's naturally a centre back and he got comprehensively beaten to a header by a winger. Vermaelen is probably the only central defender in the Premier League that Valencia could beat to a header, pathetic defending. As for the second one, Valencia made a complete fool of him, he decided marking Park and leaving Arshavin to deal with Valencia would be a great idea, Valencia beats Arshavin, plays a 1-2 with Park (remember, the guy Vermaelen was supposed to be marking) then plays the ball past Vermaelen a third time for Welbeck to score. Clownish defending.

The first goal was mainly Djourou's fault. Djourou stays inside, while he should've taken on Nani, who shouldn't have been able to make the cross. Vermaelen wasn't fully aware of Valencia making a run in his back. He should've used his arms to slow him off.

"Pathetic defending" by Vermaelen? I wouldn't say that. You're overreacting.

    ResurrectionRooney wrote:
What, and Valencia is supposed to go for headers? Yeah, that's why he's scored about 1 in his whole career. Valencia got to the ball first because he had better awareness of what was going on, obviously if it came to a single head to head duel where football intelligence doesn't come into it, Vermaelen would be expected to win, but that's the big problem I have with Vermaelen, he lacks footballing intelligence.

Perhaps you would still have lost had Vermaelen not player, but you certainly wouldn't if you had a competent Full-back in his place.

This entire comment is bullshit. What the fuck are you on about, fool? Better awareness of what was going on? Valencia had the play in his full sight, Vermaelen didn't exactly know what was going on his in back. Is that better awareness? No, it's simply the position you have in the field.

Valencia had the advantage, because he was able to go towards the ball in full-speed, while Vermaelen wasn't.

    Act normal, idiot.

The fact you are happy with such a defender and making all these ridiculous excuses for him getting beaten to a header by a winger and behaving in a statuesque way on the second goal, blaming practically everyone else in the stadium, that shows how deep your problems are.

And as for Vermaelen being unsighted, A) Knowing where the other players are is part of your job as a defender, B) If you can't do A, go to the ball anyway, don't just let it run and pray there's no attacker behind you. Honestly, if this guy was at United he would have been crucified by now.

Oh yes, I forgot, it's impossible for a defender to lose a header to a winger. Pathetic comment.

    A) Of course Valencia has better awareness of what's going on. That was your point in your last post, now you're simply switching it around. Secondly, there's two defenders and a keeper infront of him, they don't react and he acts too slowly. Three, argueably five players make a mistake and you single him out.

Stop making an idiot out of yourself and go away.

Hazard is the sort of player Wenger would spend big on, question is whether the money is there, and whether he's interested in joining a club who don't win anything.

He's done it before, signed a young attacking midfieder/winger for big money, take Arshavin and Reyes for example.

Arshavin is a spiffing player, most assists for Arsenal in the Premier League last season by far, he's just not being used correctly. Reyes won two League titles while at Arsenal.
