No, he's naturally a centre back and he got comprehensively beaten to a header by a winger. Vermaelen is probably the only central defender in the Premier League that Valencia could beat to a header, pathetic defending. As for the second one, Valencia made a complete fool of him, he decided marking Park and leaving Arshavin to deal with Valencia would be a great idea, Valencia beats Arshavin, plays a 1-2 with Park (remember, the guy Vermaelen was supposed to be marking) then plays the ball past Vermaelen a third time for Welbeck to score. Clownish defending.

What, and Valencia is supposed to go for headers? Yeah, that's why he's scored about 1 in his whole career. Valencia got to the ball first because he had better awareness of what was going on, obviously if it came to a single head to head duel where football intelligence doesn't come into it, Vermaelen would be expected to win, but that's the big problem I have with Vermaelen, he lacks footballing intelligence.
Perhaps you would still have lost had Vermaelen not player, but you certainly wouldn't if you had a competent Full-back in his place.
ResurrectionRooney wrote:The fact you are happy with such a defender and making all these ridiculous excuses for him getting beaten to a header by a winger and behaving in a statuesque way on the second goal, blaming practically everyone else in the stadium, that shows how deep your problems are.
ResurrectionRooney wrote:And as for Vermaelen being unsighted, A) Knowing where the other players are is part of your job as a defender, B) If you can't do A, go to the ball anyway, don't just let it run and pray there's no attacker behind you. Honestly, if this guy was at United he would have been crucified by now.

Probably off to Chelsea then. Found himself in London with some time to kill I'm guessing.
He's done it before, signed a young attacking midfieder/winger for big money, take Arshavin and Reyes for example.Fonseca wrote:ResurrectionRooney wrote:Hazard is the sort of player Wenger would spend big on, question is whether the money is there, and whether he's interested in joining a club who don't win anything.

Arshavin is a spiffing player, most assists for Arsenal in the Premier League last season by far, he's just not being used correctly. Reyes won two League titles while at Arsenal.Novi, The Creator wrote:ResurrectionRooney wrote:He's done it before, signed a young attacking midfieder/winger for big money, take Arshavin and Reyes for example.
They turned out to be spiffing players didn't they. They both hate(d) living in England also.

No players are used correctly at Arsenal. Bendtner on the wing.
Can't disagree with him.Fonseca wrote:Apparently Hazard's agent has said than Eden "sees Arsenal as a step back in his career"
