No not really. When I look at him I just sort of think "Well he's meant to play for Liverpool".

I Know Dave and i was not having a go at your post bud. Its just the thought of paying 15 million pounds for a Scottish Footballer of today, I think people would have a laugh considering the state of Scottish football. Although Fletcher has been doing really well for Wolves.Scouser_Dave wrote:Alan wrote:15 Million for a Scottish centre forward.
We like paying over the odds for strikers. Plus it's the January window.

I'm guessing you will go for Darren Bent. No offence to Dalglish, but he doesn't seem to realise there is a footballing world outside of Britain.

I'm sorry but he's gone for Carroll, Downing and Henderson, and has shown interest in Darren Bent. Both you and I know there are better targets out there.

Ok so maybe I took it a tad too far. I just find it curious that the targets you have reportedly shown an interest in (and brought in) have all been premiership players. Especially consdiering Premiership players have a tendency to be grossly overvalued.

That's the approach he's taken, time will tell if it works, but we've seen improvement since. However, he has brought in players from abroad as well. People slated the Bellamy deal, now they are ruing the fact he's not able to play every game.

His main transfers have been Adam, Carroll, Enrique (Worked out very well), Henderson, and Downing though. I admit I went a little too far in saying he doesn't know football outside Britain, but he certainly has stuck to premiership players, and I don't really see them having improved your side all that much. The team you are playing week in and week out is really Benitez' squad.
I am not slating his deals, but he does seem to stick to Britain.

From what I've heard Suarez was on Benitez' radar long before Dalglish became manager. Coates I do not know, it certainly doesn't seem like a Dalglish move. I could be wrong of course.

Not saying they are bad targets, but overal he has stuck to the premireship, not really looking abroad that much. Despite there being a number of very high quality players out there available.

I've sean the last bit but there's still nothing wrong with the signings he made at the time.Laurencio wrote:Dan wrote:

Adam - £7m, great passer and a useful player on his day.
Carroll - Hefty price, but at the time was seen as the next up and coming English striker. Some thought he was the next Shearer.
Enrique - Like you said, worked out very well.
Henderson - Again, the only thing that makes it seem like a stupid buy was the price. Bought for the future and has plenty of potential and at the moment he's playing quite well.
Downing - Had a great last season at Aston Villa, the thought of his crosses and Carrolls power was what drove the deal to be made. Unfortunately he has been complete garbage since coming in.

Is that a criticism of Kenny though? Or further proof that Rafa bought well.
Adam has strengthened us in the middle, Enrique has been a brilliant buy and Henderson is coming into his own and improving as the season goes on (obvious that he has the talent to be a key player for us), Downing has started slowly but is getting there, while Carroll has been incredibly unlucky (still believe he can be good for us) the main issue is the price.
On top of that, we've brought in Suarez, Coates and Doni from abroad, as well as setting up improved scouting networks around the world, which has seen us bring in 2 Chinese youngsters, Nascho Huertas from Albacete and Marc Pelosi and Viljan Bijev from the US.
Kenny wouldn't sign someone because they are playing in the Premier League. I'm certain he would pick the best player for the job. The whole summer people like Jamie were moaning about us not going for Mata instead of Downing, Mata rejected our advances.

Re: Liverpool FC Official Thread
He bought Glen Hysen back in 89,90 season. And i think he and the people in the club need to keep building the club back up and through time we will eventully start being linked with more foreign players or more players from all over the world. And if we can possible get back into Europe and hopefully the Champion's League maybe that will help us and give us a better chance of going for different targets all over.
But whatever happens and if he is still out manager i think he and the club will be looking for players all over the world.

Adam is useful, but I don't see him being an improvement on your team. Not a bad player to have, but eh... it was one of the transfers that made me go "why the hell isn't he looking abroad". Arturo Vidal went to Juventus for roughly the same price, Nuri Sahin went to Madrid for the same price, Gokhan Inler went for slightly more. I would say all of them are better overall midfielders and with more potential than Adam. I know it's unfair to criticise him based on what we already know, but there were players out there tbh.
I like Carroll so I'm not going to say anything bad about him. I still think he is being criminally misused. Forlan was available for €5M last summer though and probably would have made a better partner for Suarez, and could have done a great job for you while Carroll was getting used to your style of play. Not that I would say Forlan is a much better purchase.
Henderson's price is just absurd for a youngster that spends most of his time on the bench. Especially for a team that needs to improve to capture 4th and CL play again. Possibly a good purchase, just made at the wrong time.
Downing I can understand completely, but eh Andre Schurrle looked generally better for Mainz than Downing did for Villa and there were a few other wingers who would have been cheaper and possibly better. But granted that one is hard to judge.

Rafa bought well indeed. He made a few massive blunders, but generally his purchases were decent.
Fair enough. I still think Suarez was more or less wrapped up by the time Dalglish took over, but fair enough. I think you had a chance, with the money you had available, to purchase players that would greatly improve the squad and that you may have made a few good deals, but that a chance was missed. I also do think that Dalglish, based on the first team transfers you have made, prefers to stick to the premiership. I think it would be a mistake to go for Darren Bent, because he would most likely be overvalued.
Dan wrote:How the fuck have you come to the conclusion that Coates doesn't seem like a Dalglish move?
A youngster from South America who did well in Copa Libertadores? Considering Dalglish basically went for premiership players when given the money to spend he just seems out of character. I'm not saying he didn't approve the transfer, but I don't think he "wanted" him.
I could of course be dead wrong.

I didn't say he didn't buy players did I? I said he seems to have little knowledge of footballers outside the British isles.
