Why do we like football?
Why is it do you think the majority of males in the country enjoy football? Do you think there's something natural and biological about it or do you think its just socialisation, are we just brought up to believe we should like football?

Re: Why do we like football?
Its everywhere you go, I have found in recent years that if there is no football to talk about, I struggle to find much more to talk about, always ends up with little chit-chat.
Also, I love the fact it can turn a shitty mood into an amazing mood, and a great one into a shitty one. The emotions I feel is brilliant.

Re: Why do we like football?
People like Luke and Sean liked football because they picked a team that was winning everything, but now that Chelsea are shit, they don't care anymore.

None of my proper mates like football like I do.
There's one who's a United fan that tries, but he doesn't know shit really. Bases his opinion off papers and stuff.

Everyone I know watches football, even the people you would never expect
Other, I only get the banter from Wolves, West Brom and Villa fans, which isn't great

Forgot to add ..
And they wonder why Chelsea fans have the nickname 'plastics'. Well, it was made obvious last night.

One of the few social arenas where men are allowed to show emotions.
In all seriousness though. The fact that it combines the beauty and fluncy of dancing with the mentality and agressiveness of war might have something to do with it.

Re: Why do we like football?
If Liverpool had lost last night, I'd be pissed off and so would all the others. We'd be in the Liverpool thread bemoaning our misfortunes or something. The Arsenal fans last night were still discussing the match afterwards, some of them showing displeasure toward lacklustre performances from Chamakh, Gervinho or whoever. They clearly cared they were beaten. No-one wants to be beaten.
That's why it was a bit strange that last night, you and Luke acted like you didn't care. If it was just an act, fair enough, but if you ACTUALLY didn't care, then questions need to be asked of your support.
The team clearly cared, the fans at the stadium clearly cared, the manager clearly cared. Yet you and Luke 'didn't' ... ? Okay.

Re: Why do we like football?
Seems to me like the homegrown sports that were established professionally in or around 1900-1920 or so in each major country are the sports that today have the largest followings due to it being passed down through family.
Football in Europe
Football* and Baseball in America
Hockey in Canada etc...
All these leagues were formed originally around the same time. Why are they different sports in different places? Culture and environment mostly. At least at first glance.

Yea, I dont care about the Carling cup, call me what you want, Im not gonna lie and say I care about a competition that I dont care about. And maybe you and the Arsenal fans care more because you havent won a trophy in so long, not having a dig just saying that the CC is probably higher on your priorities than ours

Maybe not, but the CC is nothing that great. Did you really feel that much better a few years ago when you won the CC against Villa but didnt win the PL or CL?

Re: Why do we like football?
At the time I was very happy with the Carling Cup win, had to beat City over 2 legs with a last minute winner from Rooney, then came from behind in the final to win that, was a great feeling.. obviously looking back on the season it's nothing special but when you win it, it's good.. gives you a nice boost.Sean wrote:kyro7 wrote:But you're not going to win the league or CL tbf.

Re: Why do we like football?
Better to win something than nothing and you have to prove you can compete and win these tournys to gain confidence for the bigger ones. I may not have been the biggest deal for Arsenal to win it last season but it was a big deal that they lost it because their aspirations were high and results in the CC can get your fans behind you and your direction.
No shame in losing a close battle against an equal team but losing to an inferior team when you are playing a solid 11 can backfire
Good teams may not care but great teams have the attitude that every competition is worth winning
